West Seattle scenes: Crunched car; new tree lot

Fauntleroy Way has its radar speed signs … and it has other reminders of the perils of the road, like this car with a smashed-in rear end. We spotted it along the south-of-Alaska stretch (the one proposed for repaving and reconfiguration) a few days ago but don’t have the story behind it (yet); Scott M suggested it was worth a photo, so here it is. Will be checking again shortly to see if it’s been towed yet. Not far away, Mike J spotted this new Christmas tree lot getting set up on Alaska, between Howden-Kennedy and Bank of America:

Once the lots are all up and running this weekend, we’ll bring you the annual WSB Christmas tree lot list (and price check). Other lots where we’ve seen setup include the legendary Holy Rosary Christmas Tree Lot, which opens this Saturday behind Admiral Safeway, and the lot at Tony’s Produce (35th/Roxbury), which shut down fruits and veggies a few weeks ago to get ready for the Christmas focus.

YOWZAA! I saw this smashed up car on Fauntleroy by Fairmont Park over the weekend. I wondered did it get smashed THERE and left? Or if was hit somewhere else, why would someone tow it there? I pray no one was hurt….

This car looks suspiciously close to illegally parking too close to a fire hydrant. And the picture doesn’t really show the scatter of debris normally associated with a crash. Did it get towed/driven there after an accident?

To continue the mystery, I rode by it this morning, there’s a huge, huge patch of what looks like car fluids just under the leaf litter, and there was some kind of cable and other debris right infront of the car, but nothing on the roadway or shoulder like glass/metal parts like after other wrecks. My suspicion is towed.

Wow I’m glad there are so many budding detectives in West Seattle.

We saw this car last night too! I think it was towed, but why? It made me slow down, so parking it on the street might be a cautionary tale brought to us by the police department.

Well, if the brothers get to use that building, that is by far the most cushy tree lot work ever :) They could have (gasp) heat, hot beverages, and a toilet? Niiiiiice. Glad to see the space getting some seasonal use!

Nope, it’s not towed. Last night on my way home via sidewalk I discovered sidewalk and grass in that area is littered with broken car parts, glass, metal and other debris. It’s a huge amount of stuff and couldn’t have been “tossed” there.

Thanks. I checked with the Southwest Precinct and it’s difficult to track a report on what might have happened here, if a police report was even filed. However, if anybody wants to have it towed, you could certainly report it to police and apparently they could arrange for that.

I hope the owner of the car wasn’t already out of town for the holiday – would be a terrible welcome home present.

Tow that mess away! Where is that nasty parking lady when you need her? Get a few of the motor homes enjoying “free parking” on Harbor Ave. while you are at it. Speaking of Harbor ave., does the towing company get special priveleges? Cars/tow trucks parked on the sidewalk, some pointing the wrong direction. I would never get away with that…

I live in the building behind this car – the car has not been towed. I’ll try to find out the story behind the car and do a repost.

Sorry, comment time is over.
