GiveBIG 2015 has begun! You can donate to these West Seattle, White Center, South Park nonprofits right here, right now

Again this year, dozens of local nonprofits are participating in today’s GiveBIG one-day donate-a-thon coordinated by the Seattle Foundation. The money you give TODAY ONLY to any or all of the participating nonprofits goes beyond face value – it boosts their eligibility for a “stretch pool” of partial matching funds, to be distributed proportionately depending on how much each participating organization raises during GiveBIG, by 11:59 pm tonight.

MEGA-IMPORTANT: You **must** donate through the special pages all participants have on the GiveBIG website, NOT via the organizations’ own websites. So here’s our list of those special pages for participating West Seattle, White Center, and South Park-based or -founded/-connected nonprofits. The special links take you to pages on the Seattle Foundation website with background information, as well as the donation links to use for this one-day event. Please also note that some organizations require an extra step – the “go here” link takes you to their “fiscal sponsor” or parent organization and then you MUST write the local org’s name in the “comments” area. (P.S. Please let us know if we missed a WS, WC, or SP-based organization – post a comment or e-mail us ASAP at editor@westseattleblog.com so we can check it out – thanks!)

    Hi all,

I am giving big to NAMI Greater Seattle (National Alliance on Mental Illness). Although not located in West Seattle, their Board President lives in West Seattle. They have their annual NAMIWalk coming up in a few weeks for another chance to give! Anyway, its a ‘whole Seattle’ organization that helps families who love someone with a serious mental illness, as well as folks with mental illnesses. If you or someone you know’s family is in a mental health crisis they have an opening in their worthwhile Family to Family course which teaches caregivers what they need to know when someone they love has a mental illness.

    Peace Out

Quite an impressive list! Thanks for making it easy, WSB. :)

Thank you so much for adding Disability Rights Washington to the list! Protecting the rights of people with disabilities in WS and statewide is important work and GiveBIG is a great way to support it!

One more for the list: the Highland Park Improvement Club! donate here: http://www.hpic1919.org/donate/

WSB…thank you for letting folks know about this important day of Giving.

There 70+ local non-profits to chose from (1700 total for King County). The beauty of Giving through The Seattle Foundation is that they have performed due diligence in researching every non-profit that has a profile on their website.

So please consider giving to a non-profit (or two) today that represents your values.

If looking for a group that supports pets, we hope you read our profile and consider donating to Furry Faces. Thank you, the F3 Gang

Good cause, Art Critic. I think inroads are being made to help families help loved ones. In the past family members have been viewed with annoyance by the mental health profession and by the courts. But who’s knows their loved ones better than their families?

  • Christine Cranston May 5, 2015 (9:08 pm)

I think your link to the seal sitters is incorrect. Please check. That’s another good cause. Thank you.

    • WSB May 5, 2015 (9:35 pm)

It is correct. The Associated Recreation Council is where the link goes and that’s Seal Sitters’ fiscal sponsor. That’s why it says “write the name in comments.” Thanks for checking.

Sorry, comment time is over.
