WATER TAXI: West Seattle route expands schedule starting this weekend

Metro has gone public this afternoon with the summer sailing schedule for the West Seattle Water Taxi, which starts this Saturday (April 11), as we’ve been noting in our morning traffic/transit roundups.

In addition to bringing back the extra night sailings on Fridays and Saturdays between Seacrest and Pier 50 downtown, the West Seattle Water Taxi also will have “new additional sailings on Saturdays and Sundays” on the schedule that runs through October 9. WT spokesperson Al Sanders explains, “There are six extra runs on Saturday and five on Sunday. (The) Marine (division) re-wrote their whole schedule to shrink the 1-hour dwell times at each dock down to 40 minutes.”

Here are the schedules starting this Saturday:

The West Seattle Water Taxi’s sibling route between Vashon Island and downtown is expanding for summer too, with Sunday service starting April 12, in addition to already-added Saturdays.

You can see the entire summer plan – plus reminders about fares, pets, shuttles, etc., – by going here.

I don’t see any information about late night sailings next Tuesday, 4/14, for the US National Women’s Soccer  team vs. Japan game at Lumen Field.

I am also hoping there will be a late sailing the 14th for the soccer game.

Will we ever get extended Water Taxi service daily? Only running up until 7pm is not acceptable, and also the West Seattle Water Taxi is too slow! It runs at a mere 12 miles per hour, and with the Water Taxi shuttle, it’s just not competitive enough with taking the detour down to the Alaska Junction and then going to Downtown from there. Also, we need better bus service for the North end of West Seattle and I’m sick and tired of waiting only for it to be ignored or worse, REDUCED!

Agreed, Alex Wood. I would take the bus in admiral if it were available. They take it away because we don’t use it, but we don’t use it because it’s not good.

Most of us don’t use it because of how little it actually runs. Driving just becomes more attractive to Admiral and Alki nowadays, but yet this city doesn’t provide enough parking!!

Sorry, comment time is over.
