WEST SEATTLE CRIME WATCH: Stolen mail dumped in trash

Stefanie reports finding stolen mail, some opened and some not, dumped in her trash bin – just before it was scheduled for pickup today. At least some of it was from the north side of High Point, not far from her neighborhood. So if you’re in that area, be aware a mail thief has been busy.

Thanks to the blog for posting that. It has been written previously about USPS REQUIRING peoples mailboxes to be at the sidewalk nowadays (residential ones often have no locks …and multi unit ones have ‘locks’ that are super easy to break)  It has been suggested that there would be a class action lawsuit against USPS for not ensuring that mail is protected from theft. The old days of delivering up at each house seem to be going away in favor of mailboxes at the sidewalk.(required.) People should not have to have serious risk of stolen mail as a result of these requirements. The time it takes to notify and undo a quick mail theft: hours and days upon days of effort and time… maybe even identity theft…as well as possible stolen checks and account numbers.USPS  is forcing upon the public these new mail boxes at the sidewalk….. and it’s the public (not USPS ) that has to pay the cost in time and money for stolen mail. Something EFFECTIVE should be done to stop the ease of those thefts.

Who chooses the quality of the multi-mailbox? The builder or the USPS?

Regarding who chooses the mailbox: there is criteria that is set up by USPS own what mailboxes can be used ..and they will deliver to(thankfully I am still able to get mail delivered inside my yard because I’ve lived here a long time and I don’t have to have my mail at risk at the sidewalk)  …it is USPS criteria and then you have to buy/install mailbox according to what they tell you

Found in Arbor Heights twice in the last 6 months. Between 41st off and 106th. Seems they like dumping off in the alley ways. Dropped off or sent back to the post office. Hope all get their mail back!
