WEATHER ALERT: Another Dense Fog Advisory, and fogged-in fireworks

11:03 PM: The National Weather Service has another Dense Fog Advisory in effect until 10 am New Year’s Day. If you were thinking of going out to see the Space Needle fireworks, sorry, no view from West Seattle unless there’s a midnight miracle – we came down to Harbor/Alki Aves to check if the bay’s socked in – yes, it is. (Only positive thing to report is that street-level fog is a lot thinner down here – uphill it’s thick.)

12:03 AM: The TV stream of the Needle fireworks shows they’re even fogged in for the cameras right beneath.

Sooo thick uphill! I was driving my family back home from Southcenter (we saw the Stranger Things finale at AMC) around 10:40. I was driving slowly westbound on Thistle West of 35th, 20 MPH max, due to the limited visibility.

I was driving in White Center around 9pm, heading home from dinner and the fog was so thick, I also found 20 mph was the top safe speed. In a couple places I had to do only 15 mph.

Things are getting sporty down here on the beach.

Accident on Thistle street with several police cars west of 39th. Avoid area and drive carefully. Parents check  on your teenagers.

Shoot, I hope this isn’t involving the people I saw coming home earlier. I didn’t mention it in my comment, but I was already going very slowly (20 MPH max) along that stretch and am glad I was, because if I’d been going even 25 I might have hit a teen guy getting out of a car parked on the north side of Thistle there. He was so far into the westbound lane he was nearly at the center line. I had time to slow and wait for him, but it definitely made me nervous for him. This was a car of teens getting out of a car around 10:40 PM. There were more cars parked along there than normal, so I assumed they were headed to a party.

I saw the police on Thistle as I was hoping to head further east for a gunfire scene (story to come) but couldn’t tell what was going on, thanks for word it was a crash. Apparently no serious injuries as no SFD dispatch.

Drunks + thick fog ÷ patches of ice = mayhem.Stay home if you can.

I’m at the space needle. I can confirm it was hard to see even from right underneath (as close as they let you get). It was still fun!  Happy new year!

View of the Space Needle from Seattle Center last night. Kind of a bummer but it was my first time experiencing this so I have zero regrets. Happy New Year WSB!

I’m surprised they went ahead with the show. I thought they might cancel due to the thick fog.
