BIZNOTE FOLLOWUP: Whisky West sets the date for all-ages transition

(WSB photos)

When Whisky West opens its doors at 11:30 am this Sunday, it will no longer be an exclusively 21+ establishment. As we reported earlier this week, the Morgan Junction bar and restaurant at 6451 California Ave SW just completed a minor remodel to cordon off the bar area and allow all ages in the remainder of the space.

Whisky West’s general manager tells WSB that as of Wednesday afternoon, they have state approval for the change and can start welcoming families as of December 14th.

It will be wonderful having bundles of joy running amok, crying, throwing tantrums while eating and imbibing.  Looking forward to it.  Completely unnecessary.  They are always busy.

Yayyy! I’ve never been to Whisky West but have been curious about it for years. :-) Gonna push myself to finally check it out and support their business—they’ve been a staple business of California Ave for as long as I can remember.

I certainly remember its predecessor, The Feedback Lounge! Wonderful spot with mediocre food, best cocktails in WS, and occasionally…truly great live music.

This makes me kind of sad.  It is nice to have some adult only spaces.

Agree. Definitely loses some of its appeal.

There are adult only spaces literally next door to and half a block away from Whiskey West. There are plenty of 21+ businesses in West Seattle.

If y’all could have your way, there’d be nowhere people can go without children and off-leash dogs running around.

I agree. I’ve seen some pretty atrocious behavior that parents allow at a couple restaurants. I don’t go to those spots anymore.

Good thing you can still check out… beveridge place, the bridge, new luck toy, box bar, camp west, and all the other 21+ there are in West Seattle. There is always something to complain about but this one is not making sense.

@lucy: Did you not read the original reason stated by the business for making this change? As explained in the earlier story: “We are not able to pay the bills without doing something. It’s a last-ditch effort to keep the doors open and stay in the neighborhood.” Making the decision to welcome families in an attempt to avoid going out of business seems like a reasonable one. I wish them well and will be stopping by to support them. Here’s hoping you will, too. Cheers.

Is there any public venue where I can order an NYE drink with a minor?

  • Lauren December 11, 2025 (5:04 pm)

    Very excited about this!

  • Kris December 11, 2025 (8:12 pm)

I happy to see Whiskey West finally is allowing  all ages.

  • SoLongDelridge December 11, 2025 (11:53 pm)

A sober reminder that children today have little independence and very few spaces designed for them.

  • Jeff December 12, 2025 (12:53 am)

Children are also people, hope this helps. Looking forward to checking out this place finally!

  • Mellow Kitty December 12, 2025 (6:54 am)

Yes. Let’s just make all bars kid-friendly. Totally appropriate. SMDH.

  • Helpermonkey December 12, 2025 (8:35 am)

The problem isn’t the kids, it’s the kinds of parents who insist on bringing their kids into these spaces. Get a babysitter if you want to go to a bar.

    • Tim December 12, 2025 (10:50 am)

Amen what’s this world coming to.

  • Good Grub Hub December 12, 2025 (9:47 am)

I’m a parent, and I don’t drink but I like good food and music and have pre-teenagers. Just because a few of you have experienced some parents that let their kids run rampant, that’s not everybody, nor the majority.

The establishment actively pursued this to keep their business afloat (probably due to rising costs and slower nights) so can’t we all learn to share.

I’m looking forward to a new place to try.
All you Nimby complainers need to calm down. . .IMHO

I don’t inherently have a problem w/ all-ages bars, but I’ve noticed that loud, disruptive children tend to be more tolerated than dogs with the same problems in establishments that allow both. Makes it difficult to enjoy places like Beer Star.

    • Keith December 12, 2025 (3:26 pm)

Every time I peek in Beer Star it’s so chaotic, a daycare animal kennel combo gone wild.
