MISSING: Have you seen Jim?

10:24 AM: Reported by Rose:

Sad to say, a neighbor who has dementia is missing.

Jim left Pigeon Point and typically walks to the Senior Center in the Junction. But he did not get there.

He is wearing a blue jacket and jeans.

He is hard of hearing.

Rose says Jim was last seen last night. The report number is 23-271803. (Call 911 and refer to that SPD case number if you see him.)

ADDED 12:38 PM: More info, from SPD: Jim is 86, 5’10”, 124 lbs, gray hair, glasses, blue ski jacket, blue or black jeans. “Last seen on 9-18-23 between 6:30-7:00 p.m. in the 3600 block 22nd Ave SW.”

I think there’s some missing numbers or there are extra numbers on the phone number that was given to call if someone see that gentleman.

That’s a police report number, not a phone number. I do need to add “call 911 if you see him.”

I can’t say for sure it was him, but I did see a slim, older man (maybe even jeans, but no hat is the only other thing I remember) on the corner of 44th & Dakota last night (Monday) between 6:30-7:00 pm. I did not recognize him as a usual neighborhood walker and slowed because I didn’t know if he wanted to cross the street. He sort of pointed west at the sunset, which was lovely. I got the impression that he was pausing there to admire it. Either way, I hope Jim is found soon 😢

Didn’t catch it in time to edit, but *pointing* at the sunset, which made me think that he was appreciating it, and showing me, which was sweet.

I saw this man at Admiral Safeway yesterday at 345pm. I recall because he spoke to me and it was a very strange interaction. Based on this post, it sounds like he was seen after I interacted with him, so I’m not going to call.

I think you should call 911 so they can trace his path. Also, the previous poster did not say they called the police, nor were they 100% sure it was him.

Jim and his wife have been staunch members and volunteers in our community a very long time. I especially liked seeing them carrying signs to protest the burning of fossil fuels in the Junction on Farmer’s Market days. My heart goes out to her dealing with his dementia because I am also dealing with a relative with dementia.  Family caregivers are the unsung, unpaid heroes/heroines in these types of situations. I am sure Jim will be found and returned to his home and hope he didn’t get too cold last night. I wonder if in the future he could wear a watch with a GPS tracker in it? I just finished the book “Travelers to Unimaginable Lands” by Dasha Kiper and cannot recommend it highly enough to the caregivers of people with dementia.

thank you for sharing with me today. I’ve been canvassing bus drivers, as he does have his orca card with him but now over 26 hours missing, cold and rain here, very worried

I have a relative with early-onset dementia and her iphone is tracked and her purse has an apple tag in it. Tracking her has saved/found her twice.  I hope Jim is found.

Do we know the exact route he walks? Has anyone walked the route, checking the yards or brush next to the road to see if he might have fallen?

Neighbors ought to organize a search party.

I am showing his picture to my Metro bus drivers and been looking everywhere I go on foot and from bus windows on my routes!  Maybe a search message can be broadcasted for drivers and a picture posted at the bus barns seems relevant… hopefully someone has done this… drivers are new on runs since September 2nd.  It could also help.My prayers for Jim’s safe passage back to Pigeon Point home are constant!!

Let’s find this gentleman. He seems a dear man who could use his entire communities’ help right now. I know I will be keeping my eyes peeled until I read here that he is back safely at home.

I’m almost positive I saw this man yesterday (Tuesday 9/19) at approximately 6pm at Morgan St and 35th. He was walking on the sidewalk, accompanied by a woman who had her arm intertwined with his as if to assist/direct him. I was driving, stopped at the red light and watched them for a moment wondering what was wrong- it seemed as though he needed assistance but he wasn’t limping or anything- it makes sense now knowing he has dementia. I hope that woman got him safely somewhere and he has been reunited? I am currently on hold with the police (for 15 min…..) to report this information (911 transferred me to non-emergency line since I’m not seeing him right now).

Maybe ask the food bank if they saw anything.

About three evenings ago I saw a man that looks like him walking in the street on 27th Ave SW one block north of Roxbury Street. I was driving down that street and I saw various families getting in/out of their vehicles, but this man stood out because he seemed all by himself at the north end of the street and not with anybody else walking kind of aimlessly, I thought he might be homeless. I don’t recall him wearing eyeglasses, but what stood out was that he had a scruffy face (like he hadn’t shaved in a while).  Right around the corner from there there’s a wooded area with trees for the Roxhill Park, and a bus stop on the other side. Hopefully he’s not staying in that wooded area.  Best of luck finding him safe.
