Brown water in North Admiral

Texter reports brown water in North Admiral. Anyone else? If you’re seeing it, be sure to report to Seattle Public Utilities at 206-386-1800 – it’s often fire-hydrant testing, but sometimes it can be first indication of a problem.

Just noticed the same, I called the number above and was told they are testing today and it’s hydrant sediment.

Also just received a call back from a SPU tech per their protocol who confirmed what I was told earlier. Unfortunately, they recommend not using water for the next ~3 hours, particularly hot water, so the sediment doesn’t get in your hot water heater. I have an event to attend this afternoon and now won’t be able to shower, I asked why notification isn’t sent out so that people can plan around such events and SPU isn’t inundated with phone calls. Their rep said that they don’t even find out until the day of, it’s the fire department’s domain. It sure would be great if the Fire Department could give a heads up to the WSB in the future so those affected could plan ahead.

my water is flowing clear after about an hour from first noticing it. Hopefully that’s it for the day.

The city says there’s nothing you can do to clear the water by running the tap.  It has to settle in the mainline overnight.  It sure would be nice if they would havewarned us ahead of time so we could have saved some drinking water!

Still brown for us.  Have run quite a bit of cold water, but not seeming to get any better.

SarahYou are SO right,SFD could notify the WSB of their schedule.

I’ll ask SFD but in reality I suspect it’s a “we get to them when we are not out on calls” type of thing.
