WHALES: Humpback off south West Seattle

9:22 AM: If you have time to start your week with some whale-watching, Kersti Muul reports that orcas are off Colman Pool at Lincoln Park, southbound. Let us know if you see them!

10:01 AM: See comments – Kersti confirms it turned out to be a humpback.

Kersti , we’ve tried signing up for your alerts several times now but only receive an error stating the URL is invalid. Would love to get in on it, as we’re just a couple blocks away and I would love to try and grab some video at some point.

Well I tried it again and it worked. Weird. Last time we tried we attempted on two different devices/accounts and had no luck.

This has now been verified as a humpback not an orca. Was reported as an orca but now with eyes on it’s a humpback

Now nearing brace point close to shore SB 140

I saw a video this morning of a humpback landing on a boat in MA.  There were a lot of boats crowding it, hard to say if it was accidental or deliberate.  I just hope the whale wasn’t injured.  Again, a bunch of stupid whale-watchers who don’t actually care about the whales.

Is there a way to get text alerts when whales are in the area?

    • alkiannie July 25, 2022 (3:42 pm)

HI Michele,  if you scroll up, you will see the answer to this question. Kersti uses WhatsApp (not standard text).  You have to download WhatApp app if you haven’t already. Then you click on the link above from your mobile phone. If you have any issues, you can send her an email (which she generously provided). It’s all in the thread above.
