UPDATE: Driver damages bus stop in Upper Alki

12:09 AM: A driver crashed at 59th/Admiral less than an hour ago, damaging the bus stop. Thanks to Paul for the photo; he reports that after hearing the crash, he found a woman who said her boyfriend had been driving and fled the scene; then, he says, she left the scene. Police at last report were still trying to sort it all out.

10:01 AM: Checked with SPD media relations. The full report isn’t in but ‘notes on the call” indicate that police did eventually find and talk with the people who were in the car. Information on whether the driver was cited is not yet available.

The boyfriend ran away after the crash and left her to fend for herself? Talk about dating losers.  I hope the police already found him.

I am updating above. The full report isn’t in but “notes on the call” indicate that police did eventually find and talk with the people who were in the car.

I spent most of my life in Chicago and in my decades of living there never saw so many insane car accidents as I have here.  Plowing into bus stops?  Overturned cars everyday?  I have observed more weird car accidents in little West Seattle in the last few years than decades in a major metro area.  What is wrong with the drivers here?  Drunk? High?  Stupid?  All of these?

No, we don’t have a higher # of crashes here. What you do have is a community news publication (hi!) that covers them. I sit next to the scanner with all precincts’ frequencies all day, every day, and there are flipped cars, cars into poles, etc., in other sectors of the city (did you see the recent incident with a truck hanging half off a freeway railing?), they just don’t often get coverage.

I agree with MARIANLLC.  News coverage aside, there do seem to be tons of flipped cars and nonsensical crashes; way more than I ever saw in the decades I spent driving up and down California.  Saw maybe one flipped car in my lifetime before moving here.  My theory is the state lets anyone get a license, regardless of ability.

The one flipped car you saw before moving here was via a news source, or you saw it in-person?  If the latter, then how many flipped cars have you seen in-person in West Seattle?

As WSB stated above, just because you weren’t seeing the accidents on news sources doesn’t mean they weren’t happening – you just weren’t seeing them, which you’ve seem to translate into them not happening at all.  Imagine if you never looked at the West Seattle Blog.  Would you still think there were so many more flipped cars than when you were in California?

    “Ex-boyfriend”

Wouldn’t this be hit and run? Since they technically ran away from the scene.
