TRAFFIC WATCH: Wednesday 9/2 notes

6:03 AM: It’s Wednesday, the 163rd morning without the West Seattle Bridge. Yesterday was, by many accounts, one of the worst commutes of the post-bridge-closure time – here’s hoping today’s better.

ROAD WORK

*The Delridge project that’s paving the way for RapidRide H Line continues. Here’s the newest bulletin about where work is focused this week.

CHECK THE TRAFFIC BEFORE YOU GO

Here’s the 5-way intersection camera (Spokane/West Marginal/Delridge/Chelan):

Here’s the restricted-daytime-access (open to all 9 pm-5 am) low bridge:

The main detour route across the Duwamish River is the 1st Avenue South Bridge (map) . Here’s that camera:

The other major bridge across the river is the South Park Bridge (map). Here’s that camera:

Going through South Park? Don’t speed.

Check the @SDOTBridges Twitter feed for info about any of those bridges opening for marine traffic.

You can see all local traffic cams here; locally relevant cameras are also shown on this WSB page.

TRANSIT

Metro – No recent changes – still reduced service and distancing – details here.

Water Taxi – Still on its “winter” schedule, with the 773 and 775 shuttles running – see the schedule here. (No service on Labor Day.)

Trouble on the roads/paths/water? Let us know – text (but not if you’re driving!) 206-293-6302.

No mention of the large accident scene on Holden and 99 this morning?

    • WSB September 2, 2020 (8:30 am)

That was clear by 5:25 am.

Do we know if there were any special circumstances that made the commute so awful yesterday?

The consensus was, I-5 fire spillover. And that’s what used to happen with the bridge, too – if there was a major NB I-5 incident, the logjam could stretch the entirety of the bridge and into WS. – TR

Weren’t there also 2 drawbridge openings between 9am and 9:30 ? ( or just the one at 9:20ish? Had a front row view of that one but 509 N had come to complete stop about 15 min prior )

Yes, we noted that yesterday, but many reports put the far-worse-than-usual slowdown/backup as starting much earlier.

Sorry, comment time is over.
