TRAFFIC WATCH: Tuesday 9/1 notes

6:07 AM: It’s Tuesday, the 162nd morning without the West Seattle Bridge.

ROAD WORK

*The Delridge project paving the way for RapidRide H Line continues. Here’s the newest bulletin about where work is focused this week.

CHECK THE TRAFFIC BEFORE YOU GO

Here’s the 5-way intersection camera (Spokane/West Marginal/Delridge/Chelan):

Here’s the restricted-daytime-access (open to all 9 pm-5 am) low bridge:

The main detour route across the Duwamish River is the 1st Avenue South Bridge (map) . Here’s that camera:

The other major bridge across the river is the South Park Bridge (map). Here’s that camera:

Going through South Park? Don’t speed.

Check the @SDOTBridges Twitter feed for info about any of those bridges opening for marine traffic.

You can see all local traffic cams here; locally relevant cameras are also shown on this WSB page.

TRANSIT

Metro – No recent changes – still reduced service and distancing – details here.

Traffic is hideous getting to both 1st Avenue and South Park bridges.

Traffic on 509N at 9:15am was awful. After reading reports below, I guess I feel thankful that my trip from Arbor Heights to Wedgwood took 60 minutes instead of 40 min. like it has in the past.  (don’t have to make that trip too often, thank goodness.   )

Highland part way eastbound  backed up all the way up the hill to Holden.

I just went back through the traffic-sources Twitter aggregation we keep – all local agencies, plus regional media accounts that track traffic – no reason except: Two 1st Ave. S. Bridge openings in the 9 am hour, plus (more likely) domino effect from the deadly fire that closed part of I-5 NB at the Convention Center. Also, a new month, maybe some more people back to offices? I know many major employers are continuing with WFH but … TR

It took me from 830 to 9 to get down the hill and when I finally got to the bottom I saw the bridge open.

This is my second attempt getting out of WestSea today.  I tried at 8 o’clock to go Roxbury to 509 and turned around Because of the backup. Now I’m trying to get on holden to Highland Parkway also at a standstill.0

That fire incident created an 8 mile backup on I-5 according to WSDOT, obviously causing the only roads leading north out of (South)West Seattle to become parking lots. My normal 25 min drive to work these days turned into an hour and 35 minutes.

took me an hour to make it 3 miles from North Delridge along West Marginal to the Highland Park Way turn. ETA to work was still an additional hour via the maps. bailed and turned right back into West Seattle. can I use sick days for traffic?

  • Sillygoose September 1, 2020 (1:21 pm)

Ridiculous!!  and there sits the low bridge empty.

I was going out at 9:30 this morning. SPD had 5 car’s guarding Chelan entrance. Got on W Marg. when I heard 1st S. bridge was open-again. Turned back home.

Left Alki at 8:10am for Belltown, and didn’t arrive until close to 11am. That was rough.

Sorry, comment time is over.
