(Recent Lincoln Park sunset, photographed by Theresa Arbow-O’Connor)

One day after we noted that Monday’s high temperature could rise into the 90s, the National Weather Service has issued an alert: Our area has a “Heat Advisory” for 9 am-8 pm Monday, with the NWS saying it could get up to 93 degrees. Read the full alert here.

I like your blog tag. So get mad sciencing! When I moved to Phoenix from Seattle, back in 2015 I did not know what hot and humid really was. I immediately ran to Home Depot and Safeway. Here’s a quick description of my DIY cooling system. (Of course AC in the house was set on Winter but I like being outside)Home Depot shopping list: Copper Tube Coil ZipTiessmall electric conduit box with Two holesgarden tubing and misters5Gal bucket PVC pipe fittingsteflon tapesmall inexpensive water pumpSafeway:Dry IceAnd the end result is an awesome cooling system you made by yourself which recycles  water ( copper tube with garden tube secured to back of any large box or round fan creates condensation blown from back of fan  water recycled in 5 gal bucket  via small pump) Dry ice in small conduit box has incoming water and meets the dry ice before being forced out the other side to the misters  Finally, wear a nice loose dress, the breeze is amazing ;)

89 degrees is a normal range of a summer day. Typical dumpster fire news from wsb.

No, actually, it’s not. Average daily high this time of year is in the 70s. And if it were normal, the NWS wouldn’t issue an alert. Thanks!

P.S. Bring out the fans … NWS has since updated to say 95 degrees is possible.

If you don’t like reading WSB then why read it at all? NWS weather alerts are newsworthy – if you think you know better than them then I’m sure the NWS would love to hear your armchair analysis on how they should run their department.

Not looking forward to the heat, but can’t really complain as the summer has been near-perfect so far this year.  In recent years, the extended droughts and persistent heat were decidedly unpleasant and hard on gardens (and water bills).  This year we’ve had a lovely mix of sun followed by cooler, rainy days that were a relief to plants and humans alike, and reminiscent of the PNW summers of the not-so-distant past.

Sorry, comment time is over.
