From White Center Now: 2-alarm fire

For the second time in three months, a fire callout at the former Yarington’s Funeral Home at 16th/107th in White Center – this time, much bigger, 2 alarms. We’re covering it on partner site White Center Now.

I find it not only sad but interesting someone is focusing on this property so hard, is someone trying to build on it but the owner wont sell?

Please click through to the story on WCN. It WAS sold, half a year ago.

Is this no longer a Funeral Home, I ask because a few weeks back I saw some people hanging around the building and this was at 5am and I thought to myself, strange place to hang out? not to stereotype but they looked homeless

As noted in the WCN story, it was sold in January to real-estate investors. I don’t know when it was closed but it was before the April fire.

I drove by on Sunday, on the side street,  and also saw people milling about in the back of the building.  There was graffiti there as well.  I hadn’t known it was sold, but noticed the missing signage on the front of the building as I got to the traffic light.

I drive by here multiple times a week and KC Sheriff’s have been there almost daily recently trying to control the loitering, vandalism and squatting here for weeks.   I actually looked up the property owners info on Monday to see who bought it — sure enough, out of State, tax bill goes to Florida…. I intended to contact them and see if they knew what had been going on (I was assuming the Sheriff’s office had been in touch)  offer to send some pictures etc….   Feeling rotten I never got around to it.

Why would they care ?  — Get ready for another “multi-use” plus tinnie tiny apts or 3 story high 10 ft wide townhouses — with almost no parking!

I thought it had been closed as it looks like it was in Disaray and the Big Sign out front was not there anymore.  Sad that it burned down.

I smelled smoke when I left for work at 6AM. Looked around my place and the neighborhood but couldn’t see anything. I’m over a mile away from this place but I wonder if that’s what I smelled.

If you’re within a mile, yes. Co-publisher reports even hours later when we got there, the place was so socked in with smoke that it looked like fog.

The smoke smell woke me up, and I live all the way over at the top of Highland Park Way.

Just drove and it is completely gutted! Sad, that Funeral Home has been there forever

Many, many years ago, the Yarington family lived in the home behind the funeral Parlor. My brother-in-law would on occasion give one of the Yarington boys a ride home from school.  He’d pulled up to his house, and as the Yarington boy got out of his car he would always say “thanks for the ride…last one’s on me.”

Went by about 11:00 this morning and it was still burning??  24 hours and still burning???

Flare-up. Lot of fuel in there. We stopped by to check it out too. And even yesterday, North Highline FD was still on scene putting water on it around 6 pm.

Sorry, comment time is over.
