SCAM ALERT: Utility-bill phone callers at it again

Another West Seattle business got the utility-bill scam phone call today and wanted to share the alert. Sleepers in Seattle in The Junction tells WSB they got one of those calls where the claim is made that a utility bill has gone unpaid and cutoff is looming unless payment is made immediately. All local utilities have issued repeated reminders that they don’t do business this way – here’s the City Light scam-alert page, for example.

WSB do you have the spam number that they’ve used? I had a call from them and thought it was spam but thought the number looked like it was authentic(spoofing maybe?)

No. I can tell you from firsthand experience, spam and scam calls come from a wide variety of numbers. We get many. Some numbers look local. Some are not (we have to answer anyway as someone local could be calling from the mobile number they originally got while living in another state, etc.)….

‭(866) 203-3262‬. This is the jerks that tried telling us our power is scheduled to be shut down in a half hour.

I’ve gotten two scam calls recently claiming to be from the IRS. I told them to come on over and get it.
