Party on the field! West Seattle Soccer Club celebrates golden anniversary

Check out the 50th-anniversary jerseys on the West Seattle Soccer Club players who were on the field during WSSC’s celebration at Southwest Athletic Complex this afternoon! Big fun in more ways than one:

Among those there to celebrate – the club’s founder, Joe Smith, at right below with the president of WSSC’s board, Stefan Persson:

WSSC is a recreational soccer club for all youth 5-18 in our area, and it has become a huge success over the decades, with four-digit participation. P.S. This weekend also marks the start of fall play for many – older players had games today, while younger players had a Jamboree.

It was a special day of all the Smith family. We were taught at a young age to give to our community by our mum and dad. Great to see that WSSC has expanded a little from the original 18 players to over 1,800 today. A seed planted many years ago has grown into tree who’s root are deep and branches have spread all over the world. Think about how many players, coaches, referees, and families lives have been touched by this soccer organization in 50 years.  Thank you to the other families that were also there from the beginning, to those that have helped change kids lives, and to those that will lead us into the next 50 years!

My father Sid was a part of that group in the first few years. As Norm stated many a meeting at the Smith home. I played from 1967 – 1977 in the WSSC & at WSHS. Many a good memory. Dad would have enjoyed this too. So good to see Joe a part of it. Congrats WSSC!!
