FLYOVER: Mariners expecting two military jets over Safeco Field tonight

Just got word from Seattle Mariners spokesperson Rebecca Hale that they’re expecting a flyover around anthem time before tonight’s game at Safeco Field, in the 7 pm vicinity. She says two Prowlers are expected. (Since we’re making note of this, we should also mention it’s Fireworks Night postgame.)

I see them circling over the Sound waiting for their entrance right now. I was wondering what was going on out there.

  • Under_Achiever August 17, 2018 (6:53 pm)

    because it’s there

Is that the terrifying noise over my home in gatewood?!

  • zephyr August 17, 2018 (7:01 pm)

Good grief!  They just flew over Gatewood and I rushed to the blog to see if you had announced something.  Earlier, there were some other jets crossing the peninsula that was a bit abnormal.  So, the fighter jets just made it a little more tense.  Thanks for putting the word out.

I wondered why there was suddenly so much air traffic noise over the area.  And now it’s quiet.  Thanks WSB!  We can always count on you!

Thanks for the report! Heard the loud noise and came here first to see what was up.

They went right over me in high point and watched them loop over the stadium

Wow I guess everyone’s on high alert since the SeaTac incident

Military might and right . Ecologically wrong.

Comical the consternation some people express at these flyovers. Seen every comment from “pro-war propaganda” to “bad for the environment”. Luckily the support easily outweighs these.

Hahahah, comical indeed.  I truly enjoy reading some of these comic, and wonder if they are serious or satirical.

Just a precaution… Horizon still missing a few keys.

Some want a hard line against many countries.   It might not be long before…just sayin, can’t have it both ways.  Peace is always better!

They were F18 Hornets instead.  I thought they were a show of force in case of a copy-cat plane thief.

    • WSB August 17, 2018 (9:51 pm)

Sorry, I didn’t see them… only heard them … and Prowlers was direct from the M’s communications director.

      • T August 18, 2018 (12:38 pm)

Prowlers were the EA-6B jets. F18s phased in a few years ago, so they called them Growlers. Ms communications might just be stuck on the old name.

I was in Whisky West and I honestly was worried a SeatTac-bound jet was about to crash into the Thrifway, so loud was the jet scream and echo. A little frightening, to be honest.

We’re just blocks from Wiskey West and I had a similar reaction. I noticed in the 30-40 mins before the change in SeaTac air traffic and the hovering – I was nursing my youngest and got up to double check on my older kiddo and heard the flyover and I though something else had happened at SeaTac post last weeks “incident”

    The single loudest flyover ever!

My eldest son turned 25 yesterday, we assumed it was in his honor!  Greatest BD present evah!  #loveourveterans #loveourmilitary

Can we petition to ban them from entering our airspace? Noise pollution and scaring wildlife isn’t worth the waste of money…

    • West Seattle Hipster August 18, 2018 (9:20 pm)

I can’t tell if you are being serious or snarky, but good luck with that petition!

Sorry, comment time is over.
