BIZNOTE: Verity Credit Union opens its doors – wide! – in West Seattle Junction

It’s the financial institution that looks more like a café than a financial institution. That’s the view from the open-air (weather permitting) storefront where Verity Credit Union (WSB sponsor) soft-opened its first West Seattle branch today (4505 California SW; previous tenant, Radio Shack).

There’ll always be someone at the front to greet you; depending on what you’re there to do, you can go sit at a table, or at the bar in the back.

One feature of note – a coin-counting machine. Free for Verity members, five percent fee for others:

Speaking of five – you can join Verity for $5 (explained here). And there’s an ATM outside, part of the Co-Op network if you’re a member of another credit union. The branch will be open 10 am-6 pm weekdays, 10 am-2 pm Saturdays, and the grand-opening celebration is the first day of West Seattle Summer Fest (Friday, July 13th).

Looooooves the Credit Unions! (Mine is Qualstar, but good to know I can do fee free at Verity). I’d HIGHLY encourage all to switch and close out any loans and accounts with the big name banks. They charge you just to practically breathe, plus CU’s have better interest and are a whole lot kinder and helpful. Depends on who’s at the top, and big banks are shady and too political anyways. Let CU’s take CARE of You!!

So glad to have a West Seattle branch.  I have been using the branch by the VA on Beacon Hill. The coin machine is a big plus.

Verity is a fantastic CU.  I worked there during the last big downturn and I had never seen an organization work so hard to keep people in there homes when things went south.  As a member owned not-for-profit they relied loans, reworked terms, etc.  So many more folks would have lost their homes if it wasn’t for them taking care of their members.  Financial Coaches, an amazing investment team (Ken Butler is the best!)  and an solid leadership team, this place is such a safe place to store your money.  Work force is very reflective of the community and they have taken strong positions on LGBTQIA rights issues.  It’s a very sort walk to move your money from Chase to Verity :-)

Sorry, comment time is over.
