FOLLOWUP: West Seattle Junction Post Office’s outdoor mailbox is available again

Thanks to Andy for the tip! After a week and a half, the West Seattle Junction Post Office‘s drive-up/ride-up mailbox is back in business. You might recall that its return in August followed a seven-month-plus absence, so some were worried about another long outage.

You wouldn’t believe how happy having that big blue box makes me.  I would also love a drive-thru book drop-off at the library please.

It was down for a system update. Mailbox 1.13

Good news, and an Amen to the library drop off.  Other cities do that – but I don’t know of one in our fair city.

The old rusty drive up mail box was an icon.  I hope it was donated to the Museum of History & Industry or perhaps the Log House Museum.  That thing was rusty & old mail box as long as I can remember!

My wife asked at the post office and she was told that they lost the key.

      Are you serious?!?

Nice to see that. It has been such an inconvenience being without it, I think they should install a steel post bollard in front to protect it from future damage.

Bollard would help prevent damage, but wouldn’t have helped with the latest closure – they lost the key to get mail out of the box, that’s why it was shut down.

I think that I damaged it with the weight of my property tax check – it went out of service the next day 😎

Yes, they had only ONE KEY to the box… and they lost it.

I hope they changed the lock!

Things sneak up on me sometimes, wanting to drive up to the mailbox when I could park a block away and walk.  Wishing I could drive to a book drop off so I don’t have to get out of my car.  Ordering groceries online so I don’t have to go to the store.  Just now thinking about hiring someone to clean my home so I don’t have to.  For me, these little things are adding up and creating a very lazy person.  Maybe I can do the same in reverse and start sneaking in more activities.  Park the car and step out, walk around the store.  And stepping off in a tangent, I am realizing how those self service grocery check outs are replacing people.  Do I want to support that?  Sure the lines with humans are long but thats because they don’t staff as many checkers since we’re all using the self service. If we all go back to the human powered lines the management will staff more people.  Please don’t harass me about being insensitive to physically impaired people. I am talking about myself and how subtle change can be.

Sorry, comment time is over.
