(WSB photos)

Staffers from the Westwood Village QFC and executives from parent corporation Kroger cut a ribbon this morning to celebrate the completion of its $2.8 million remodel. The party also included gifts for the day’s first customers, and cake:

Kroger also presented $1,000 checks to two area nonprofits: WestSide Baby and White Center Food Bank, whose Mercy Budiansky and Angela Beard accepted the gifts:

Among the remodeling work: All-new fixtures, some exterior refreshes, as well as changes to the meat/dairy sections.

Just left QFC. The remodel isn’t that great for 2.8 million. Though I did see Rite Aid had SPD ONLY parking installed, along with no panhandling signs at the exits

The Westwood emphasis was mentioned again at last night’s Block Watch Captains meeting – that half of the story yet to come.

Nice store, truly great people but the remodel stinks.  I find they no longer carry about a third of the things I buy regularly and some sections are half the size they used to be with endless add-ons of vegan, vegetarian, organic, whatever, gluten free, flavor free etc and higher prices.

The lunch meat, deli and cheese sections are on one side of the store and bread is on the complete opposite side..brilliant along with a number of other oddities.

For a smaller store, it had a great selection.  Fortunately, Safeway is two long blocks down the road and has the stuff QFC stopped carrying and a lot more.

Oh and their music system now plays commercials and not just for in-store items, often at excessive volume.  Even Wal-Mart doesn’t do that as far as I know.

“along with no panhandling signs at the exits “

I think the shopping center mangement put those in..they seem to be at all the entrances to Westwood…seems to be helping.  You can now actually sit on some benches without bothering someone who has decided it is his bedroom by squatter’s rights. and who appears to have moved in for the season and who can’t afford rent but can afford endless cigarettes.

Needing reserved parking for the PD is NOT a comforting thought unless it means they are regularly foot patrolling, which would be fine but I have not noticed such.

Sorry, comment time is over.
