TRAFFIC/TRANSIT TODAY: Friday updates; weekend watch

(SDOT MAP with travel times/video links; is the ‘low bridge’ closed? LOOK HERE)

(Click any view for a close-up; more cameras on the WSB Traffic page)

6:59 AM: Happy Friday! No incidents in West Seattle, or outbound from here, so far today.

WEEKEND NOTES: None of this weekend’s West Seattle events is likely to affect traffic/transportation. But as for the rest of the city, here’s SDOT’s roundup – Hempfest today through Sunday includes a road closure toward the north end of the downtown waterfront; the Mariners are home, which means games at Safeco Field tonight, Saturday night, and Sunday afternoon.

7:06 AM: This Metro cancellation just came through with no warning:

7:09 AM: And immediately following that:

Metro also canceled one 56 and one 57 in the 7 am hour yesterday, as reported in our Thursday traffic/transit watch. We had asked their media liaisons for information on what’s going on, and are expecting that information today – depending on when it comes in, we’ll either update this report or publish something separate. These aren’t their only announced cancellations so far this morning system-wide – if you scroll through @kcmetrobus (the official Twitter feed), you’ll see eight cancellations for non-West Seattle routes so far.

My 57 wasn’t close to full at 6:55. I am now on a nearly empty D line. Wow. Got a heads up from a bus driver that next week the drivers will get different routes.

Thanks, NN. I was about to e-mail the Metro contact to be sure they knew there were more cancellations today as they research our query from yesterday – will throw that in too. – TR

Yep had to scramble to grab a 55. Thanks Metro.

Does anyone know why the No Parking signs for Saturday through Sunday are up on Alki Ave along the water front at Duwamish Head?

Our building is usually notified if there are film crews in action, but nothing on this one.

    Thank you.

We won’t be able to go look for a while but there should be at least one with a sheet that gives contact info – I don’t know of any events, otherwise. The Alki Beach 5K isn’t until a week from Sunday … TR

P.S. This wouldn’t be it as it’s not happening that far east but, pulling a search, I did find an event we didn’t know about otherwise! Powerlifting at Alki tomorrow.

I’m sure Metro is printing up another batch of “We’re sorry” postcards to hand out to riders next week.   This is absolutely ridiculous.

Oh, it got worse today. Finally got dwntwn. Had a 2pm appt on California Ave SW at 2 pm. The 50 scheduled to leave the Junction at 1:42pm either didn’t come or left early- while at the stop, I took a photo of a tagger at 1:34pm. The next scheduled departure from the Junction was 2:04pm. So, I started walking. That 2:04 departure passed me at 2pm at the 3400 block of California. UGH. I’m paying higher taxes for this??? I am so DONE with Seattle.

Looks like a traffic accident on viaduct southbound?

    • WSB August 19, 2016 (4:24 pm)

Yes, it’s about an hour old, though, and SDOT hasn’t updated.

      • WSB August 19, 2016 (4:27 pm)

…but I found a video view and the car is still blocking one lane, so we’ll put up a separate alert.

      • newnative August 19, 2016 (4:27 pm)

okay, it looked like it wasn’t cleared, meaning something to investigate.  I’m getting gnarly traffic warnings here in Lower Queen Anne, and thinking of walking to water taxi to avoid traffic jams.

I waited almost 20 minutes between 5 til 5 and almost quarter after, for either a 55 or C line to take me to the junction. Even though my phone was live tracking several 55s and said they came and went, I didn’t see anything. Did anyone else experience this bus votex?

  • newnative August 19, 2016 (7:48 pm)

i was on a 55 at 6:20pm because I made the choice to walk to Belltown and eat, before returning home.  we caught up to another 55 at Columbia, then yet another at California and Charlestown.  the traffic was all snarled in downtown.

Sorry, comment time is over.
