West Seattle Crime Watch: Gunfire arrest in North Delridge

Thanks to Nicholas for the tip: Police arrested a man in North Delridge after he was reported to have been “seen firing numerous rounds from a rifle up into the air,” in the 4100 block of 25th SW, Southwest Precinct Lt. Alan Williams confirms. He says officers found the rifle and “spent shell casings … in the front yard.” No damage or injury reported; the suspect was expected to be booked into jail.

I hope this person ends up doing about five years behind bars for this little stunt. Hopefully, the judge will throw the book at him. I won’t hold my breath, though.

What a bleeping idiot!!! He should have his rifles  confiscated for good. That lead has to come down somewhere and can be seriously dangerous.

If fired in the air by the time the bullet come down it has reached its terminal velocity point and is no longer dangerous not saying the shooting wasn’t dangerous but by the time the bullet falls from the sky it is no longer a danger

A bullet fired in the air can absolutely injure or kill a person.  Google it.

      Don’t confuse with facts.

There are still plenty of overhead things it can hit and ricochet.  Discharging firearms in urban areas for any reason other than threat of imminent bodily harm is a terrible idea (not to mention a waste of ever-more-expensive ammo).

There are multiple sources that say bullets can be dangerous,  including a recent BBC article. One source from a random website doesn’t make it true.

Actually, Skeptic’s link agrees with Keden and AMD, that any shots fired can penetrate a skull/ceiling/etc and kill/maim someone (innocent).

Keden, did you check Skeptic’s link? It is a well-written piece that supports your comment. His “I beg to differ” comment was likely targeting “D”.

Because comments are not all approved immediately, it is always helpful to indicate the target of your response, at least. I have seen comments like “I agree” which could end up being preceded by something they did not agree with. It is also good to be less verbose than I am.

As someone who works at a gun range and has recently seen first hand what a random stray bullet can do, which is not only go through the roof of a car port, but then through the window of the car parked underneath (which was determined by the angle/trajectory to have been shot off site about approx. a mile away), I can tell you D, that falling lead from the sky can be dangerous. To think otherwise is naive

Is there a way to find out where exactly, or who exactly, this was? Living on this block we have suspicions, but didn’t see any of this happen last night.
