FOLLOWUP: Westwood Post Office’s drive-up mailbox returns

Thanks to Jissy for the tip – the much-asked-about Westwood Village drive-up mailbox is back. Just last Friday, the USPS confirmed to WSB that it was done repairing the box that was damaged by fire in late August, and would bring it back “soon.” Its arrival is just one day after what was expected to be the busiest mailing day of the holiday season. The USPS had told us that the box couldn’t simply be replaced because it didn’t have a surplus mailbox of this type; this was the second time this year it needed repairs – first time was after a driver hit it in March.

Lenny, indeed it has. 2 Parked cars in the striped zone around 4:30pm, but mailbox still accessible so the drivers must of thought it was still okay.

Sadly, there were people with that habit even before the box was gone. Super happy the box is back, though. And hopeful the line of cars dropping off mail will be enough to remind folks what the white crass-hatching means. :)

I arrived a bit late to the dance–only discovered it was gone yesterday, which seems strange. I totally freaked out (not really), but was desperately looking around for some explanation about what had happened. It reminded me of the time I discovered my car was “missing”. Your mind just can’t take it in! The little things become such big things sometimes. Might as well enjoy the Post Office while we still have one.

I walked over to the PO mid day and there was a guy standing out there next to the box yelling ” YAY THE BOX IS BACK” like the box cheerleader. it was very entertaining

i can only hope the postal people have installed a GOOD camera on the box. one that can see at night , maybe we can see who is causing the problem ……the little white scooters can fix the parking problem with gusto….

FINALLY! What a relief. Still can’t believe it took 1/2 of forever to get it re-installed, but glad it’s done. I try to mail most of my bills and personal correspondence off island because our post office here is SO messed up, and not having the convenience of the drop box at WWV was really a pain in the rosetta. Thanks WSB for the update!
