West Seattle Crime Watch reader report: Car prowl in Seaview

The photo and report are from Tami:

My car was prowled last night in Seaview neighborhood in alley parking space off 46th Ave SW between Juneau and Findlay (5600 block). Nothing taken, but glove and other cubbies opened and rifled through. Reported for statistics to police.

This case isn’t on the map yet, but here are six that were reported in West Seattle over the preceding six days, going back to August 18th:

(There were none shown for the WS areas north or south of what’s on that screengrab from the SPD police-reports map.)

Interesting, that was EXACTLY how my car was left after being prowled last week. Just south of the junction. Nothing taken, but I filed a police report. Same robber? Perhaps looking for booty other than my outdated paperwork, aging flashlight and old dinner mints.

my policy now is to always leave the doors unlocked and nothing in the car but a little change in the ashtray.

    Tired of replacing windows.

Reminder to all who may happen to leave car outside of garage one night, take garage door opener inside with you. Prowler(s) may ransack your car as they did to Wendell’s and Tami’s (above) and take off with your opener and then return to rob house after you leave for work. Same with parking at work…they’ll break into your car take opener and your registration that has your home address on it.

Sad but true there are people out there that’ll do this.

Not sure if this is included on that map or not, but my husband and his friend both had their cars broken into on Saturday night/early Sunday morning in the parking garage below the Junction QFC (we live in those apartments). Both had a window smashed out and a few items taken. We think they were targeted because they both had DoD stickers on their cars (both Army), and no other cars in the garage were touched. Seems as though very specific items were targeted.

My car was prowled on 8/13-8/14- SW 44th between Charlestown & Spokane. Didn’t take or break anything but clearly rifled through everything.

Once upon a time my window was broken and the car prowled, so I quit locking the doors. The next thieves popped out the lock of the unlocked door. Don’t know what to say.

I see the 30th & Genesee incident on here. I assume that’s the one on Sunday morning that was identified as an armed carjacking at one point? I never saw any further info on that incident – just the tweet(s) from SPD. Did WSB ever get info about it? Thanks!

In the end, no report is in the system, suggesting it might not have turned out to be anything – I just rechecked all the online files. That’s the trouble with the tweet log, some incidents don’t pan out.

Our neighbors had their cars gone through a few weeks ago, in the Belvidere area. Same kind of thing. Not much taken, but they were gone through. Both said they forgot to lock their cars, so it’s an important reminDer to lock them every night!

A car alarm with a blinking light along with leaving nothing in view worth taking goes a long way toward protecting your car. But wouldn’t be surprised w/ a few exceptions.

Sorry, comment time is over.
