TRAFFIC/TRANSIT TODAY: Wednesday updates

(Four WS-relevant views; more cams on the WSB Traffic page)
SDOT reports some residual bridge backup from a non-injury crash this past half-hour, but says the scene itself, west of the 99 overpass, has already been cleared. Meantime, Seattle Public Schools are back in session today so volume is back to normal.

WALKING TOUR TONIGHT: Questions/comments about the SDOT plan for SW Roxbury? Join a walking tour tonight – all or part; it starts at 5:30 pm at 4th/Roxbury, and proceeds westward to end at 35th/Roxbury at 7:45. (For the specific stops inbetween, go here.)

ADMIRAL WAY PROJECT MEETING TOMORROW: SDOT has a meeting of note in our area tomorrow (Thursday) night too – regarding the proposed changes to Admiral Way west of California SW, as previously discussed at two community-group meetings. 6 pm Thursday at Alki Elementary, “open house” style with presentation at 6:30 pm.

9:33 AM: SPD is dispatching units to a crash on the eastbound bridge, midspan, three vehicles, said to be blocking the middle lane.

Apparently the bus lane is open to all today.

WS scofflaws, my bus driver was bitching about that very thing this morning. We couldn’t get to the last stop on Avalon to pick up waiting people because of the backup of cars.

So many SOV cheaters on Avalon nowadays—If the SPD can’t put cops out there to ticket the cheaters, then put cameras out there, e.g., 520 to photograph the car plates.

We’ve had reports of bus-lane enforcement. Usually via Twitter, but I’ve mentioned them in traffic reports. No time to look up link. Certainly not daily, maybe not even weekly, though.

I wish metro buses could be equipped with dash cams and were able to take photos of the cars driving in the bus lanes and they could be sent a ticket.

The fines must not be high enough. Haven’t seen SPD near 99 N in awhile. I see them often enough but they need to spend more time there. I’ve asked SPD. I wonder if the accident mentioned above around 9:30 was related? Accidents have been caused before by people jumping out of the 99 N lane. Traffic is worse too, when people cheat and merge back in at the last minute. Today I saw one of those dual dump trucks using the bus lane with a jeep tailgating it. Saw a few other non bus vehicles too. The bridge is bad enough, I cant imagjne the scofflaws on Avalon.

    Great idea SJ2!

SJ2, I’ve often wished for the same thing to nab motorists that cut off buses, especially when it necessitates the bus driver slamming on the brakes, and also to nab those that blatantly ignore the “Yield to Buses” Law.

    .

Not quite as brutal as my other idea; bumper mounted phasers on the front of the bus.
    ;-)
