Arbor Heights Elementary School project update: Winning bidder; restart date

(WSB photo, taken this week, looking southwest across the AHES site)
Someone asked us why the Arbor Heights Elementary rebuild site is idle. That’s by design – as reported several times before, this was intended to be a two-phase project, with demolition/site prep in the first phase, and then a stopdown while the full construction project went out to bid. We checked in with Seattle Public Schools today and confirmed that Bayley Construction is the winning bidder, for $25.4 million; the contract is expected to be awarded within a few weeks, likely going to the School Board on April 1st. If all goes as planned, work at the site is expected to (re)start in early May, though the district tells us neighbors might see some activity – such as “trailer mobilization” – before then. The new school is expected to open in fall of 2016; AH continues using part of the Boren Building as its temporary site until then.

This is great to see progress. Is the new AH elementary going to have the same boundaries once it is re-opened? Zillow shows the boundaries from Marine View Dr to 30th and from Roxbury to the bottom of Seola Beach Dr.

Also, Zillow uses GreatSchools.org data for the boundaries. Does anyone know how accurate those boundaries are and are there any other sites that make it easy for a prospective home buyer to investigate the school districts?

Paul – I wouldn’t trust a third party for anything (not even us) – the boundaries are on the Seattle Public Schools website, and what’s there now should be the same ones once it opens, without guarantees that it might not change somewhere down the line.

Thanks, WSB! I just checked the SPS website and the boundaries are certainly different. They have a good pdf map on there for each school. I would love a service that allows you to browse the map rather than having to select the school first, but this is the next best thing. Very helpful.

Sorry, comment time is over.
