Update: Another crash on Sylvan, no injuries reported

7:40 PM: Suddenly Sylvan Way, which runs through High Point between Upper Morgan and Delridge, is a hot spot for crashes. Police and fire are currently at the scene of another one near Sylvan Way/Sylvan Heights (map). No details yet, but it’s affecting traffic, with at least one lane blocked.

8:24 PM: The crash involved just one vehicle; it ran into a fence and took out a tree. Police told us at the scene that no one was hurt. This was very close to the spot where a driver hit a tree two nights ago.

Hmm. Given that it’s “Sylvan” Way, I wonder if this is actually a case of rogue trees attacking cars. :-) Glad no one was hurt.

It is a spooky stretch. A bit east in the greenbelt, a couple years back, a mysterious, heavy object dropped/flew seemingly from nowhere onto our windshield, which had to be replaced as a result. And of course, there’s the cemetery…

Nothing too strange here, just folks going faster than the road is built for.
    SLOW DOWN!

Seems like this is becoming a bi weekly event. . Heres a thought, slow down, You don’t have to be old people out for a Sunday drive slow, just the posted speed limit slow. You’d be amazed how well that works. The way people in Seattle have been driving lately you’d think they’re all getting free car insurance.

The last two accidents have taken out trees and gone onto the sidewalk. It’s fortunate that pedestrians weren’t there. I agree with old timer that speed is the issue there. More and more people seem to be using the Sylvan Way/Orchard/Dumar Way/Holden route as their way across West Seattle. The amount of traffic is annoying, but the hurry that most seem to be in makes it scary.

i think sylvian way needs a speed bump or two in that location.

Driving on Sylvan Way is always a scary experience. Speeding motorists continually cross the center line because they are speeding and cannot efficiently negotiate the curves. Speed bumps are a good idea as long as they are properly installed. The speed bumps on Erskine Way and 48th Ave SW don’t hinder the speeders. Instead the drivers avoid the speed bumps by driving in the middle of the road, speed between speed bump encounters. Erskine Way and 48th Ave SW is always scary to drive too.
