Driver taken to hospital after hitting tree on Puget Ridge

The 4800 block of 21st SW on Puget Ridge (map) is open again now that Seattle Fire units have cleared that crash scene. The driver of the car that hit the tree (which is atop a sloping stretch of West Duwamish Greenbelt open-space) was taken to Harborview Medical Center; her injuries were not major, according to emergency-radio information. A tow truck just arrived as we were leaving the scene, so the car will be gone soon too.

I hope she is OK. That is a long straight section of road, so maybe something happened to her before the accident. It is also a steep hillside, so being stopped by the tree probably saved her.

the article said that the injuries were not major, but it appears that there is a memorial at the scene?

Sam, I suspect that is what the comment above yours alludes to. I have no way of finding out, without a name, but scanner traffic described the victim as 90-ish and certainly it would take less to prove fatal (I don’t know if the crash was precipitated by a medical problem, for example). If anyone sees this and knows, you can e-mail us at editor@westseattleblog.com and we don’t have to quote you – I just can’t verify without some hint of a name – it definitely was not perceived to have been life-threatening at the time, or else the TCIS would have been called out, road would have been closed for hours, etc. – Tracy

There is a memorial at the site now. Was put up yesterday. Very sad.

Sorry, comment time is over.
