TRAFFIC/TRANSIT TODAY: Updates for Thursday 1/3

Good morning – time to keep an eye on traffic again. And time for ANOTHER warning that all weekend long, from 10 pm Friday to 5 am Monday, the first closures will be in place for the I-5 Spokane Street Interchange Vicinity Special Bridge Repair project – you will NOT be able to get to the West Seattle Bridge from southbound I-5, nor from Beacon Hill/Columbian Way. More info here. Now, on with Thursday, and thanks in advance for any info you share if problems arise – on the roads, buses, bike paths, water, sidewalks, wherever, if it’s related to getting around.

The detour is a bit confusing as in one PDF it says the S. Columbia Way ramp also closed, but the detour route map PDF shows using S. Columbian Way. Can the route to get from I-5 to West Seattle during this time be clarified? Thanks.

Re the detour route, just heard on the news that final detour routes will be announced at 10:00 this morning, so hopefully we can get that posted. Thanks!

Faith – the final detour routes are already public – posted more than a month ago, and we published another report at the time:

10 am (we got the advisory from WSDOT this morning too) is not an announcement event, just a media opportunity to talk with a traffic engineer (because TV people need soundbites). If you didn’t see the link the first time, it’s here – all dates, specific closure routes, specific detours:

I’ll ask WSDOT your question, though, because, looking at the first map, I see what you mean re: Beacon Hill (the one from I-5 is clear, though, you’ll have to get off at the exit right before the WS Bridge – the 6th Avenue exit, unless you avoid I-5 entirely, which would be my recommendation).
