Two West Seattle Crime Watch reader reports to share – one, the odd tale of a front-yard flower thief; the other, stolen groceries – read on for both, plus a quick roundup of notable incidents on the crime map from the past 24 hours or so:
First, the reader reports. David in Fauntleroy shared the following info with us and with police:
Wednesday evening around 17:15, I’m waiting for UPS to drop off an expected package…. the UPS truck had just gone down the dead end street so I knew they’d be by soon.
I’m looking out the window waiting for the truck to reappear, and a blue Volks Jetta pulls up across the street, driver leaves it running like he’s going to knock on a door of a house that he is familiar with.
He walks to the sidewalk, and then climbs the bank nowhere next to a house entry, and pulls a bunch of fresh flowers out of the ground, dirt and all.
He returns to his open trunk of his car, and places them inside.
He looks around and sees that no one is objecting, and is so impressed with himself that he goes for anther bunch of freshies.
He returns to the trunk and deposits the flowers again.
He then brushes the dirt from his hands, gets in the car, and leaves the scene.
Not sure what crime was committed, and this does not rank very high on the priority list, and there was no tax deductible slip left at the scene by the perp, but either way, very brazen nonetheless.
David shared photos of the perp with police; none of them show him with the pilfered plants, though. And he says he told the homeowner what happened.
Meantime, Jennifer reported a Wednesday-morning theft of delivered groceries:
Our Amazon Fresh order ($98 worth of food) was stolen off our front porch … between 6-6:30 am. We live on the corner of 20th and Henderson. Any other recent reports in this area? AF was great and replaced our groceries (that) afternoon!
From the time-lagged incident map for today: two burglaries reported, 8400 block of 25th SW (late morning) and 7100 block of 31st SW (very early morning); a car prowl reported this morning in the 4100 block of SW Kenyon; and a car theft reported this morning in the 5400 block of Delridge; also an “auto recovery” in the 4000 block of 32nd SW. No details on any of those incidents, just the type, location, and time, which is why if (heaven forbid) anything happens to you, we appreciate getting info with details for Crime Watch, which otherwise aren’t available for as long as a week.
