West Seattle Crime Watch: Car prowl, interrupted

Amie e-mailed this morning not only to report that her car was broken into, but to share what she saw, in hopes it will lead to an arrest:

My car was broken into this morning at the Westcrest offleash dog park. I witnessed one of the suspects running away from my car, getting into the getaway car and driving away. I was walking up the lower hill with two friends and our dogs when I witnessed a suspicious-looking guy jogging away from my car. I immediately went to my car and saw that the window had been smashed. I definitely interrupted the burglary in process. The only things that were takes were an FM iPhone adapter and car charger.

My call to 911 was at 6:20 am, which was about 3-4 minutes after I witnessed him running from my car. The suspect is caucasian, early to mid 20s, tall (6′-ish) with sandy-blonde hair and a thin build. I’m less sure of what he was wearing but think it was jeans and a dark-colored sweatshirt.

There was a second person driving the car, but I did not see them at all. A woman at the dog park said she saw the car and occupants when she arrived at the park and that they were both caucasian males. The car is an older model red Japanese model (Honda Civic/Accord or Toyota Tercel) that has a black or gray-primed quarter panel over the driver’s side wheel. The SPD took prints and provided an incident # of 12-107322. If you see a car matching this description, please reports its location to the police immediately.

Which parking lot was this in?

Was this the lot by the playground area? I can remember seeing a car like this a few times. I go there nearly every day.

I swear I saw that car described in a previous crime watch posting. Anyone remember?

Another example of why I don’t go there anymore….which my dog is not happy about. The lots are too secluded.

resident 3 – There is another entrance and (smaller) parking lot on the north side of Westcrest. It’s in a residential area and has much more visibility; you will feel safer there. Coming north on 9th/Highland Park way, take a right on Cloverdale. Go up and down to the dead end and you will see the parking lot on your right. Enjoy!

Last week, I overheard someone say 2 cars were hit in the small north lot very recently. I always use the south lot by the playground area and will be looking for this red car with a primed fender.

I believe the new park to be built on top of the reservoir lid will have some new parking on the west side. Hopefully that parking will have better visibility.

Sorry, I was dealing with getting the window replaced all day. This happened in the small north lot. It’s definitely not safer. Another woman had her car broken into there as well less than 2 weeks ago.

Think I may start going to Lincoln Park on our early morning outings. I’d rather take my chances with animal control at 6am than spend another $342 on Westcrest. :(

I saw a car this morning that fit that description. The driver appeared to match your description as well, except he was wearing a dark flat-billed cap and smoking. He was memorable due to his aggressive driving. He was taking 5S to 405N about 7:30am and was last seen turning onto Grady Way in Renton, headed east. If this is the same individual, he might not be from the West Seattle area. And no, I did not get a tag number but it was an older reddish import with a black driver’s side front fender. No tint on the windows or any other unique identifiers.

Okay… This is my first post on the WSB.

A few weeks ago, our vanpool rolled up to the park and ride under the WS bridge 3:00pm. We noticed a guy bolt from one of our cars, he was stealing gas. He even left the can and hose still in the truck. As he took off, we got his lic. number, car make, color and I saw him perfect!! It is the same greeseball you are all talking about… Right down to the black primed fender. We called the police and I even went down and ID’d the guy no problem out of the pictures.

Of course, I can believe he’s back at it!! Next time I see that car….. Well, you get the picture…

Thanks Nate! I will send this info to the SW precinct with the incident number I was given. Not sure how far the SPD will follow leads of this nature, but I will send them every single one you all send me or post here.

    My email is amiemarston@gmail.com

    RBH –

Can you *please* provide me any info you have on this greaseballl? If you still have the license number, police incident report number or officer’s name I’ll do the follow-up with the SPD. It would be really great to get him off the streets!

Feel free to call me if that’s easier. 425-829-6265.

    Amie

Sorry, comment time is over.
