Summer starts tomorrow: Watch the sunset at Solstice Park

So far the forecast looks great – finally! (cross your fingers) – for NASA Solar System Ambassador Alice Enevoldsen‘s summer-solstice-sunset-watching event tomorrow night at Solstice Park (uphill from the tennis courts across from the north end of Lincoln Parkscroll down this story for the map on Alice’s site). Sunset is at 9:11 pm; get there by 8:45 to get a good spot and talk with Alice (here’s our story, with video, from her spring-equinox event). If the forecast holds true, this will break Alice’s string of consecutive sunless solstice/equinox events at 8. (2010 winter-solstice photo of Alice and sungazer, by Jason Gift Enevoldsen)

Think we’ll break the streak? Who knows …

Tracy you’ve obviously been out of California long enough to go native. That forecast is filled with “mostly cloudy chance of showers highs in mid-low 60s”! But yes, it is great and I’m enjoying the heck out of it. Yesterday was the first time I can remember walking home in a t-shirt no sweater.

The forecast is updated every six hours or so on the site I prefer … When I published the story, it was “mostly sunny” today (as it has been and as the forecast still says) and “mostly clear” tonight – that part has since changed to partly cloudy. Here’s hoping the “tonight” means “after dark.” Not seeing too many clouds on the horizon from here, but obviously things change fast! – TR
