Midweek reminder: Saturday Viaduct (etc.) closure

It’s been atop our BIG STORIES list on the sidebar all week, just for easy reference, but in case you’ve missed it somehow, a midweek reminder: The Alaskan Way Viaduct is closed for much of Saturday because of the Rock ‘n’ Roll Marathon. And since the event starts in Tukwila, there are other road closures within miles of West Seattle that might affect you too (including, in SODO, part of 1st Avenue S.). The information is all on the marathon website, where we got the map shown above. Of course, with the Morgan Junction Community Festival and the Northwest Paddling Festival, you might not want to leave West Seattle on Saturday anyway – but if you do, consider yourself forewarned. Again.

Good sweet night. Does the viaduct have to close EVERY weekend? Seriously? I’m helping a friend move on Saturday and this is just ridiculous. Thanks as always for the heads up.

Heads up to Saturday Metro routes 54/55 riders: expect buses to be running way behind not only due to the impact that the R&R Marathon will have on Downtown traffic, but the Greenwood Car Show is that day as well, and most 54/55’s “through route” to route 5, (and vice versa).

    .

The car show closes down about a 15-ish block chunk of Greenwood Av, and the coaches must reroute through residentials.

Oh, and please be kind to your bus driver. It must be one of the most exasperating days for them all year..

REALLY!!! AGAIN!!!! This is ridiculous. The construction-related closures are necessary; these event closures aren’t. I think it is time to petition WSDOT to stop these event closures. I’ve going to a get-together in the north end; the closure means I’ll need to leave at least an hour early. AAARRRRGGGHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!

And would you suggest they run on I5 instead? Where else would they run? It is a very fun event people, try it one day. BTW I have to go to the hill this weekend too but will make sure to leave earlier than usual. And oh yeah, just think this is practice for when that thing comes down. ☺

Why can’t they run along the waterfront? I’ve been in races like this and it always sucks to run on limited access highways because there is no one chearing you on.

There are a several perfectly good tracks and trails around Seattle. They should be using those for footraces, not public streets.

Over 20,000 people participated in this event last year, Frank. Just what tracks and trails are you thinking of that can accommodate that volume of people?

Sorry, comment time is over.
