We’ve got Tanagers in our backyard in Seaview and I was just watching a pair at Longfellow Creek near AllStar Fitness. They’ve been around for about two weeks- same thing with Goldfinches.

Wilson’s Warblers are also around this time of year – love seeing these vibrant guys in our yard!!

I’ve been looking at the bird book lately and seeing that tanagers reside here at times. I had no idea they were in W Seattle. Gots to get out and see one.

After I received this photo from “distant” Seahurst, I noticed another WT picture on the FB page of a local community advocate and, in comments there, I mentioned this pic. He and another local community advocate informed me they are common in WS this time of year, usually returning around mid-May! I heard an unfamiliar bird call in our overgrown-but-birds-love-it back yard the other day and found the Tanager audio link while trying to determine what it was – can’t remember well enough know to know if that was it, I hope so! – TR

the other day, my husband called me at work to tell me he saw an evening grosbeak out the kitchen window. (another vibrant yellow bird)

is there a bird watching network. etc in West Seattle ? or just the overall Seattle Audubon society.

Westside Burlesque Review: The on-line ticket sales already ended. Is it sold out? Or is there anoter way to purchase?

    • WSB May 26, 2011 (10:44 am)

You’d probably have to call Skylark, though they don’t open till 3. Sorry, some online ticket sales don’t continue on the day-of for logistics reasons; this one has been in our events calendar for a couple weeks with that link and I should have checked before cut-and-pasting it from our calendar to this preview – TR

Bird update: Paul sends a correction; he meant Seaview, not Seahurst. We do have readers far outside WS bounds so I didn’t even stop to question – TR

Hey! I saw one of these spectacular birds in my back yard in Arbor Heights! Have lived here my entire life and this is my first sighting. Loved it~

Wilson’s Warblers are one of my favs! We installed a little waterfall pond in our backyard and once we did that, tons of new birds started to show up.

I just saw a tanager in my backyard last night, right near the junction. No mistaking that coloration.

We’ve been seeing tanagers in our yard in North Admiral for the first time this year.

  • Annie May 26, 2011 (4:21 pm)

I saw one of those beautiful birds in my North Admiral yard the other morning. I am not a “real” birdwatcher but I did look it up in a book I have, and am excited to know that I identified it correctly! Hope they’ll stick around for a bit!

There are plenty of tix left at the door! Pre-sales did not sell out. Come on down.

  • Chuck and Sally's Van Man May 27, 2011 (4:37 pm)

I know that bird! Nice shot, neighbor :)

  • Enid May 29, 2011 (7:48 am)

The tanagers make an annual pass through the SSCC Arboretum. They were there as of last week.

Sorry, comment time is over.
