Update: House fire call, 9000 block 37th SW

6:42 AM: A full house-fire response has gone to the 9000 block of 37th SW (map). But most of the units are being canceled after one crew discovered most of the smoke in the house was caused by a “smoldering couch,” according to scanner traffic.

6:49 AM: This is announced as a “tapped” (as in, more or less out) fire.

SATURDAY NIGHT NOTE: As discussed in comments, SFD was called back to this house tonight. We went over to check it out; it appeared to be something of a false alarm – what we could find out at the scene indicated someone smelled smoke again and called 911 just in case.

Thanks for the info, WSB. So many responders, thought it was pretty major.

If it’s something on fire in a house or otherwise occupied (or potentially occupied), it’s always “roll the full response first – pull back later.” As firefighters have eloquently explained, lives could be lost if they did it the other way around and a small arriving response discovered people in danger, THEN called for backup … TR

Thank you as well, Agrees with Daffodil, lots of responders, woke me up out of a dead sleep. Glad everything is not major. Have seen a few trucks going back to the station now.

Don’t know why but multiple fire trucks back at the same house around 7:30 pm

Yes, we covered that on Facebook and Twitter but it wasn’t worth a separate story here – I should add a note, though. We went over to check. Neighbors smelled smoke, called the fire department. SFD found nothing, wrapped up. – TR
