West Seattle restaurants: Jonny Bostons close to opening

Owner Dan Atherton isn’t the only one who’s been waiting to get the new West Seattle sandwich shop Jonny Bostons open — he says he’s visited every couple of days by a gentleman hoping to see the OPEN sign in the window.

To the sandwich-loving public, Dan says: “I feel your pain.”

Good news is on the horizon, however; this week, the shop (4151 California SW, north end of The Junction) passed all of its inspections, and the only thing left is a visit from the Health Inspector. Dan’s trying to get this appointment scheduled next week in order to realize his “best-case scenario” goal of opening the day after Thanksgiving. If not that Friday, then “hopefully (the following) Monday.” Employees have already been hired in anticipation of an imminent opening.

Dan says he’s been getting plenty of favorable response from the community about the shop, and appreciates everyone’s patience. He adds, “We’re going through this together.” As for opening the shop featuring steak sandwiches and burgers just as everyone is getting tired of turkey? Dan says, “It wasn’t planned that way, but maybe it’s for the best!”

Once opened, hours will be Monday through Saturday, 11 am-8 pm. Closed Sunday.

I look forward to trying it! I worry a little… Seattleites are very provincial, will the Boston theme be a turnoff?

Closed on Sundays? Usually the second busiest day of the week. Why not Monday or Tuesday?

I’d say selectively provincial BB. I’ll never set foot in the Hard Rock Cafe, but am really looking forward to this small business, if it’s the real deal, and not just someone injecting ‘Boston’ into the name.
Take the sandwich shops Philly Fevre or Hey, Paison, both of which specialize in sandwiches from other big East Coast cities and have very loyal customers, not all of whom are homesick expats. They seem to be doing fine.
I like how folks move here, and then think they can diagnose the psyches of every other Seattleite, 75% of whom ALSO moved here from somewhere else.

Curious what people think are the signature Seattle sandwiches? Salmon Burger? (fantastic at Pike Place Brewing btw). Vegan? Its not like we have a seattle.cheese.steak line…lol!

Swinery had a Seattle Cheesesteak the other day! I didn’t stop in to try it, but I’d bet it was good!

I like regional cuisine that isn’t available anywhere else. I understand the expats desire to create a little bit of home wherever they live, and ultimately that contributes to a regions signature cuisine, but it’s nice to travel somewhere and know you can get something special that isn’t available where you live.

Sorry, comment time is over.
