Red Cross helping West Seattle family after 41st SW fire

Though the fire response in the 3200 block of 41st SW (map) wasn’t described as major when we checked it out about two hours ago (mentioned briefly in our morning snow coverage), the Seattle Red Cross now says it’s helping the residents, “providing assistance to six people which could include shelter, food, clothing and other immediate needs.” Meantime, SFD’s report isn’t final so we don’t have an official cause – WSB contributor Jason Grotelueschen went by the scene a while after we were there and was told it was in the attic; original call, per SFD’s Helen Fitzpatrick, was “wall fire.”

We live across the street from this house and was very impressed by the Firemen this morning working to stop the fire. I am even more impressed – the just stopped by for the 3rd time (that we know of) to walk through the house and make sure the fire was really out. I had no idea that they did follow ups like that, although it makes a lot of sense. Our Firemen and Firewomen are wonderful!

I hope the family that lived there is okay and getting the help they need. I bet there was lots of smoke damage. Sad for them, and happy no one was hurt.

Yes, very nice to hear of SFD’s follow-ups.

I feel a bit connected to that neighborhood as well, because Hinds St was the route I walked to and from home on 38th & Manning, back in my Lafayette days back in the mid-’60’s.

Plus, My “second home” (Aunt & Uncle’s house) was in the block south on 41st, up near Manning.

By the way the fabulous Alice Enevoldsen, who made Google Maps during a few crucial points in WSB community coverage of the 2008 snowpocalypse, is at it again. If you have firsthand knowledge of any major route that HASN’T been mentioned lately, that’ll help … she’s making a “map of how the roads are per WSB peeps” …

Sorry, comment time is over.
