Grand opening day for High Point Mini Market

Festive green balloons mark the now-open door to High Point Mini Market, the small grocery that has just opened at 3413 SW Graham (map), next to Hans’ VW Repair. Its sign announces halal meat and spices – halal means slaughtered/processed in accordance with Islamic dietary laws (explained here) – and it’s also offering a selection of other foods, as you’ll see on the shelves inside:

The store’s hours are 9 am-9 pm daily for starters, according to its cards; they’re at 206-932-4003.

If I had a car today I’d be there for your grand opening. Used to shop at Halal markets in Bellevue and Boston and it’s great to have one so close. Much of the food preparation is “legal” for kosher as well as halal — go figure :-)

How about selling some fresh produce? There isn’t much else around here and you may attract a few more customers!

They are selling fresh produce, I saw some there, and they are going to bring more. It is private own, but they have employees who lived in highpoint. Overall it looked nice.

The long awaited store in this neighborhood has finally arrived. The more people shop there, the more they can sell. I think they are planning to sell some ready made foods later. Stop by and give some support!!

I am just curious – can produce be considered halal if it’s not organic? If so, please explain. It would seem that man-made pesticides, herbicides, and fertilizers dumped on fields in increasing quantities would be the very definition of impure and unnatural.

This is great! High Point is leading the way in diversifying its neighborhood. We should be able to go out, shop and enjoy the adventure of foods from different cultures. I, for one, need a change from Somali food.

Sorry, comment time is over.
