High-school football: West Seattle High School wins homecoming

Just in from Southwest Athletic Complex – West Seattle High School‘s first varsity-football win of the year, and it was homecoming too – 29-6 over Cleveland. More after the jump:

We’re putting together some visuals and highlights to add shortly. In the meantime, we also have the list of homecoming royalty, from a list shared with us in the “press box” at SWAC: Lord and Lady, Spencer Elder and Legacy Frost; Duke and Duchess, Miles Thornton and Chloe St. Onge; Prince and Princess, Gianne Lopez and Arlene Orbino; King and Queen, Santino Tavillili and Elise Baleto.

Game notes from WSB co-publisher Patrick Sand:

The end of Friday night’s game between West Seattle and Cleveland saw fans pour out of the stands and run onto the field, as the Wildcats chalked up their first victory of the year, beating the Eagles 29-6. This was the first time this season that West Seattle put a full squad on the field, as players that had been injured or academically ineligible suited up for the first time in a few weeks.

Early on, West Seattle took possession of the ball and scored on a six-yard pass play (see the video above) from Isaac Johnson to Jimmy Martin. It was the first time West Seattle had scored since the game against Nathan Hale three weeks ago.

On the night, West Seattle put up 63 passing yards and 113 on the ground. quarterback Isaac Johnson had two touchdowns in addition to Martin’s. Just prior to the half, Nate Ve’e forced a Cleveland safety.
The ensuing kickoff saw junior George Edwards run the ball back for a
60-yard return and score.

Next Friday night, West Seattle plays Rainier Beach — and that game has been moved, from Memorial to SWAC.
