More food news: Pho Aroma close to opening; 3.14 Bakery, day 1

Thanks to Sha’ari from Inner Listening Healing Gongs and Sound Therapy (on Facebook here) for that photo from inside Pho Aroma, the new Delridge restaurant (first previewed here a month ago) that’s getting ready to open. Sha’ari says they’re expecting a final inspection on Wednesday; WSB contributor Keri DeTore had just spoken with the proprietors and learned they hope to be open by next weekend. Meantime, a couple miles east, a grand opening this morning in White Center:

Apple and peach pie were the kickoff offerings (and non-pie treats too) at 3.14 Bakery, just a couple doors south of Roxbury on 16th SW in the heart of the White Center business district. That photo is by WSB contributor Deanie Schwarz, whose full report on the opening will be up on partner site White Center Now a bit later this evening (update: here’s that link).

I don’t get the 3.14. Can someone clue me in?

      Pi – 3.14etc.etc.etc.etc.
pronounced like “pie” and of course they’re baking lots of those.

3.14=pi; the ratio of a circle’s circumference to it’s diameter. Something to consider when eating a nice yummy round pie.

Um, can you say “delicious”? I saw this story and decided to go grab an apple pie to take to a BBQ tonight. We (and our hosts) were quite impressed and had to (politely) fight for the leftovers. Great job and many congrats to 3.14 Bakery! :)

I am really hoping that they will have cheap Vietnamese sandwiches to go!

I am happily enjoying yet another slice of a blackberry pie from 3.14. I’m impressed – the crust does not shatter, rather it cuts cleanly. The filling is an eye-pleasing firm presentation of fruit. There is no discernible texture of pectin, and the filling is not cloyingly sweet. It is (to me) a perfect balance, allowing the flavor of the fruit to stand out. I wish 3.14 the best of luck and I look forward to more delicious pies!

Sorry, comment time is over.
