Traffic alert: Rollover crash blocking NB West Marginal Way South

ORIGINAL 4:38 PM REPORT: This is on the South Park section of West Marginal Way (map), by Northwest Center and other large industrial buildings – a rollover crash has blocked the northbound lanes of West Marginal. This is in the South Park area but in case you take that route to get back to West Seattle, here’s the traffic alert. No details on the crash cause or injuries, but tow crews are there so it shouldn’t be blocked too much longer. 4:46 PM UPDATE: A little further down the road, the Marginal/Holden intersection is still under police control and overall, says our reporter, “it’s a mess” – so avoid the area for a while.

Well, the southbound lanes were open when we went by BUT I now have a report from the field that the Marginal/Holden intersection is blocked by police and “it’s a mess.”- TR

does anyone know how this happened? We drove by, but no other car etc…looks interesting and not sure how it coulda flipped.

This was actually a BIG West Seattle transportation issue…every tried to get to the highland park hill from that 599 direction when that northbound lane is blocked….over the draw-bridge, creative u turns, back up the hill to the bridge going the other way, exit on the W Margie exit…add 5 O’Clock Friday traffic, and stir for a cocktail of traffic he…well..you know….

Also made life impossible for South Park, given the bridgelessness. So it’s now on our watch list for the future – West Marginal Way South shall be regarded as seriously and quickly as West Marginal Way SW …

In case anyone wants to know, the driver of the jeep pictured suffered broken ribs and some lacerations, but amazingly that is all!! He was hit by another vehicle as he was driving home from work. The vehicle that hit him crossed from the turn lane, over two lanes of traffic, apparently not seeing the jeep! He was hit just behind the drivers door and the jeep flipped two to three times!

We are just extremely thankful that our friend is OK!

What a horrible collision! Hope the jeep driver heals quickly; what happened to the other car’s driver? Vehicles can be replaced; people can’t. Thank God no one was killed.
