Sunday midafternoon miscellany: Buoy basking, and more

(Saturday photo by JanS)
FROM THE WSB FORUMS: Ready for some good news? There’s a heartwarming “rave” in the WSB Forums’ Rants & Raves section – someone thankful for the people who helped an injured dog find its way home. Read it here.

YET MORE HELPFULNESS: Last weekend, Greg Hatcher shared the story of the booth he and his Madison Middle School student artists planned to have at Emerald City Comicon downtown. Today – his mega-report on the convention and the generosity of folks who chipped in to help them raise money to keep the program going (it relies in part on Partners With Youth, for which the West Seattle YMCA [WSB sponsor] is raising money right now). Read his story here.

“NEIGHBORHOOD OF THE WEEK”: Our citywide-news partners at the Seattle Times are featuring Genesee Hill as “Neighborhood of the Week” today. They’ve featured West Seattle areas before but we’re noting this (a) because Dale e-mailed us about it and (b) since it’s home to the newly formed Genesee-Schmitz Neighborhood Council (WSB coverage here).

Nice story in the Times. Too bad that Paxton, or whoever, didn’t know that “The Junction” refers to the intersection of California Ave SW and SW Alaska and not California and Admiral as stated in the article.

Give those buoy surfing boys (and girls) a flat screen, some snacks and they look like alot of West Seattle Sunday couch potatoes. Nice pic!

Very nice Jan! And with a compliment from Christopher Boffoli – you know you got a GREAT shot.

This isn’t the first time the ‘Times’ has mislocated the Junction. I’m pretty sure I wrote to them about it once. Pity anyone trying to find Bakery Nouveau at California and Admiral.

    Woohoo, Genesee Hill rocks!

Wow – where is this buoy, and is it always/frequently a sea lion hangout?

Also: I picked up one of the books from the kids at ComiCon (yes I made a donation too) and it was by far the best thing I brought home. Bravo!

You can see the buoy plainly from Seacrest Park; it typically has a barge tied to it. JanS, though, must have been on a boat or have a much more powerful lens than I.

Dennis..indeed, I was on a boat tour of the Duwamish waterway, and we went a little way out into the bay. It was a great little trip, almost 2 hours long, informative, and lots of picture opportunities. See the forum post about Capt. Dave’s Duwamish Boat Tours.

I bet their not worring about health care, high taxes or if they can pay next month’s mortgage….! Ahh, living at it’s best! A little sunshine, a little rain, some fresh fish, plenty of swimming, a good circle of friends and to hell with all the rest!!

Sorry, comment time is over.
