Future Blue Thunder drummers? Maybe! We recorded those student musicians and others in the recital that ended the mid-winter-break music camp at Denny International Middle School – and now, the spring break version of that same camp is days away, with Donna sending word there’s still room:

All-Star Spring Break Music Camp
Mon., Mar. 29 – Fri., Apr. 2, 2010 – 9 AM to 3 PM
Grades 4 thru 8
Suggested donation for tuition: $100 (or pay what you can) – Lunch provided

The All-Star Break Camps started in the winter of 2008 to help bridge the gaps from elementary to middle school and from middle school to high school by engaging elementary and middle school students in a fun and educational program led in part by high school mentors.

Participants receive group instruction from certificated music teachers and participate in sectionals and small ensembles led by exceptional high school and college musicians. This will be an opportunity for students to develop friendships with kids from different schools and an excellent way to have fun playing music during the break from school.

Daily activities will include:

• Primary Ensembles—band, orchestra, color guard
• Sectionals—rehearsals of small groups of like instruments
• Secondary Ensembles—time to explore a secondary activity (steel drums, guitar, drumline, or jazz band)
• Games/Icebreakers—time to get to know one another; and an extended recess time in the gym

While this is an educational program, the mood will be quite fun and laid back. Our aim is to have a good time making music together and to help elementary students feel comfortable in the middle school environment.
