West Seattle Crime Watch: Have you seen this car?

(Photos added at 1:58 pm)
Your help is requested in the search for a stolen car. WSB’ers have spotted some others recently, so perhaps the track record will continue here. From Clare and Dave:

Our black 1993 Honda Accord (license # 084–H) was stolen from its spot at the back of our apartment building on 42nd Ave SW and Admiral Way (between Admiral and Lander) last night. We filed a police report this morning. If anyone sees it, would you please dial 911 to report it? Thank you for your help.

(Editor’s note – we omit some digits from license plates in cases like this; otherwise, crime victims’ personal data may be publicly accessible, using that information.) With this morning’s restaurant robbery nearby as context, we asked them if they had any idea of the theft time frame – they last saw the car 11 am Sunday and noticed it missing 9 am today.

Strange. I live very close to you and 2 weeks ago our neighbor had their mid 1990’s Honda stolen right from their driveway in the middle of the night. No one heard a thing. Police notified. Not a word since. Seems like a popular car in the area to steal.

Instead of printing 084-H you should print 084 H**. You should also say that it is a washington plate.

Good point about the state. Don’t know that it matters which digits we omit but we do need to standardize it so point taken under advisement! – TR

I had my 1991 Honda Accord stolen a few years ago. I think that especially the early to mid 90’s Honda’s are especially easy to break into and hot wire for some reason! Good luck getting yours back! I will keep my eyes open for it!

sad to say that your car has probably already been stripped and gutted by a chop shop in Tacoma by now :( Hope I’m wrong tho. Sorry for your loss. That just sucks.

I’m so sorry this happened to Clare and Dave. They live upstairs from me. I also noticed that another car in our lot looked like 2 of his tires were slashed(and he just moved in on Saturday – what a welcome). But the rest of us were OK. My car is currently on the non-functional list, and no one wants a Saturn, anyway.

I know cars have been rifled through in the past, and a car and motorcycle stolen a few years ago. No one can see anything that goes on behind us from the surrounding buildings, and the lights are just enough so they can see what they’re doing, I guess.

    Sigh.

Actually, very few cars are stripped and sold for parts in the Seattle area. I know this from having many Subarus stolen until I bought one with an alarm. This Honda will turn up. People just steal cars that have lost their value for free transportation. And then abandon them.

Many years ago I went out on a date with a girl whose car had recently been stolen and found 3 weeks later. During the 3 weeks it was gone the trunk was converted into a mobile meth lab. She drove it for years after wards. I’m not sure what the point of this post is, but the car might get returned, if perhaps a little worse for wear.

Sorry this happened to you. Getting the word out on this blog is a good idea since, from personal experience, the police/City of Seattle parking enforcement will write tickets on the car you reported stolen to the police. Hopefully the “system” has been updated but as of a few years ago, there was no cross referencing checked. Frustrating that the city knew where my car was for weeks before it was found… I was able to get my car back and the tickets cleared up but it was something I had to deal wth for a couple of years. Again, good luck. Sad that you have a better chance finding your car on your own.

When some hooligans stole my honda a few years back the police returned it to me with a bong in the front seat. It was a plastic bong so I threw it out. The lojack system really does work though.

austin, you would have kept a glass bong? :D
    .
seriously, though. did the cops think it was yours, or what?

A few years ago my little brother had his car stolen and then it was used in some string of robberies. They found the car and it got returned with an audio tape of rap music in it. For a long time the tape was stuck in there, so when ever you drive the car you get rap music about gangs, turf wars, ho’s and drugs and the like. That car was pimp! Heads was turning! All I’m saying is, you may get a gift you come to appreciate.

Sorry, comment time is over.
