West Seattle Holidays: Area’s most famous lights are going up

Along Beach Drive just before sunset, we caught this scene – West Seattle’s most famous holiday light display, in the process of being put up, all the way up to the big star on the tallest tree. If you’re new to the area – it’s the Menashe Family display; we’ve done video profiles each of the past two years (2008 here, 2007 here) and will be checking in with them this year as soon as the display is done. We’ll also feature Christmas lights from all around West Seattle, as we’ve done the past few years (here are our archives; last year was sidetracked in mid-December by snow) – we welcome your photos and/or addresses if no pix – if you’ve already shared the pix via Flickr, Facebook or somewhere else public, just let us know (and tell us it’s OK to republish) – we’ll include the list on the West Seattle Holidays page, too.

We spied the “cherry picker” the other day when driving by.

So happy to hear that the Menashe’s are indeed doing the wonderful Christmas light celebration again this year! We are so lucky to have it right here in West Seattle.

It has been a tough year for a lot of us. This is such a nice thing to look forward to and share with others.

    CHEERS!!

Menashe’s are so wonderful to do this – always part of our Christmas season tradition. Thank you!

Also, there’s a fabulous display on 9th Ave SW in Highland Park around SW Kenyon. Definitely worth checking out every year!

And does everyone know about the “Doll House” on 10th Ave SW and SW Barton? Interesting, very interesting. Go at night. It takes all kinds! (And BTW the Christmas decorations have been up since mid-October, when it changes from a summer theme.)

Menashe’s are great! Love their display and always look forward to seeing it. They inspire me each year to do more and more of my own display.

Yay! I was hoping Mr. Christmas would put the lights up again this year. Glad he is recession proof!!!!

You should see the display at 3908 SW Charlestown!!! Over 10,000 lights controlled by computer and set to music! Make sure you tune your radio to 101.9 FM

I think if you need to hire a contractor to put up your Xmas lights you might be going a little above and beyond… :-)

the Menashe’s haven’t hired a contractor, they actually put the lights up themselves Robert! its a family affair :)

Definitely not trying to be a humbug, as I think lights are great, but do we know if they’re using LED lights this year? Apparently the folks on Candy Cane Lane in Ravenna are switching to LED and are estimating a 99% reduction in energy use over last year!

The lights at 3908 SW Charlestown are 100% LED!!

    and “contractor free” LOL

Sorry, comment time is over.
