2 Junction notes: Police response; suspected coyote sighting

Two things to mention: First, we just checked out a tip about a notable police response in The Junction near the Chase bank branch. An ambulance was called too; turns out, police tell us at the scene, to have been a fight between two people described as transients. Second, just got this note from Courtney at Wallflower Custom Framing (WSB sponsor) across from Jefferson Square:

I thought it might be worth mentioning that I just watched a coyote run down the middle of 42nd Street. It briefly ducked into the parking garage under Jefferson Square and then came out (with a bunch of crows giving chase) and ran north on 42nd toward Alaska Street. I lost sight of it after that, and it all happened faster than I could react to snap a photo. I only mention this for any potential safety issues both for the public and the animal, and also to see if anyone else can confirm the sighting or if I am just sitting here in the frame shop hallucinating…

    Crows, love ’em.

    Coyotes aren’t rare sightings anymore. I’ve seen them and heard them. They bark softly like a dog instead of howling when they call each other.

    Nope, totally not rare, BUT to see one loping through a completely commercial area would still be quite a sight. 99% of the ones we hear about are in residential areas. And even at that, we STILL get notes from people who, despite all the mentions, despite the public-awareness campaigns, remain startled to hear they’re among us, so we still mention ’em … TR

    Courtney wasn’t hallucinating. We saw the coyote in the parking garage today. It was strange.

    I can also confirm seeing the coyote this afternoon, probably around 3:30 pm, in the alley/parking lot behind the First Mutual Bank at California and Dakota. In a manner of a few seconds, he had already crossed California and was heading west on Dakota at a very fast pace.

    Poor thing, must suck to be him.

    Yeah, we must have an infestation here in WS… I can hear them howling from the Fauntleroy Park greenbelt at night.

    My husband just returned from walking our dog around the Fauntleroy Park, and he said that during their walk our dog was sniffing a lot and pulling like crazy on his leash just before they spotted two coyotes. The sighting was around 2:15 this afternoon. Please be careful with your pets everyone!

    @MikeF An “infestation”?

    Personally I don’t mind them, they were here first after all. Just wish people would realize they are wild animals & therefore keeping a healthy distance is never a bad idea. I.e. Don’t feed them, keep your pets indoors, watch your little kids in/around areas where coyotes are known to be, etc.

    That said, I will repeat that my neighbors have TWO outdoor cats that are in my yard doing their “business” at least once a day, and now they’ve decided to troll around near my bird feeders too. If the coyotes wouldn’t mind visiting my neighborhood & taking care of my little cat problem that’d be fine with me! Just sayin’.

    I have seen one crossing Fauntleroy just under the pedestrian overpass heading down to the West Seattle Bridge. Knew it was a coyote as soon as it leapt over the center barrier with no effort at all…

Sorry, comment time is over.
