Call it one more topping on the new Zeeks Pizza in West Seattle

A week and a half after West Seattle’s first Zeeks Pizza opened in Morgan Junction, its neon sign with the rotating “Z” is in place tonight. The process took much of the day, during which several people e-mailed us about it, so we thought some might like to see the finished installation. Racking brain – there’s a rotating sign at the Admiral/California dry cleaners – anyone else in West Seattle have a rotating sign?

Easy Street’s sign used to rotate.

Who remembers the mortar and pestle in that same Easy Street spot, when it was a pharmacy, pre-record store? The pestle rotated. Right?

C.Blaine, you are correct! That was the old People’s Drug store.

Another bit of trivia, is that part of the Easy Street sign that used to rotate, is from the old Meredith’s Five & Dime Store, that was where ArtsWest Playhouse now is. I’m having a bit of truoble picturing Easy Street’s entire sign in my mind right now, so I can’t remeber if the once rotating part is all that was salvaged from Meredith’s, or if more of the sign was from there.

Just walked down to the corner to check out Zeek’s sign all lit-up. Looks pretty cool!

Nice Job Zeeks – you look great!

Can’t wait to dine at your fine looking establishment. I love the look of your restored store front – very West Seattle. The rotating neon sign is awesome….

Not just West Seattle specific, but I know many of us remember when many, if not most gas station brands had rotating signs. :)

The old Sheppard’s drug store at California and Admiral (now Linda’s Flowers)still has one.

hasn’t anyone noticed the HORRIBLE traffic now at this intersection? bad planning for parking, too

  • WSB May 13, 2009 (11:18 am)

I’ve noticed it and have been trying to figure out exactly what the problem is – it seems to routinely back up a couple blocks – but not sure whether it’s the light, or more people turning/crossing? Re: parking, for what it’s worth, we recommend parking along Graham (future development site, shut-down Chuck Sally’s) and walking – TR

Let’s get the architects/designers that did Zeeks to work on the Conner monstrosity in the Junction.

MrJT- yes ! but part of the great part about Zeeks is the original wood frame construction.

they should hire a different mechanical contractor though. When I went to Zeek’s, I couldn’t hear myself think over the obnoxiously loud air handling unit right above my head.

re: extra traffic southbound on Calif. – we were thinking that it has to do with more ferry traffic because of the Hood Canal Bridge project. The first night of the bridge closure (a week ago Friday?) we saw the cars all the way back to the nursery around 6pm. Thankfully we were going the opposite way. The following Friday was nearly as bad. If it is the bridge, it’s a six week project.

The traffic has been backing up at that corner for a long time now–way before Zeek’s opened. It starts in late afternoon so I’d guess ferry traffic might have something to do with it. But anyway, don’t blame Zeek’s.

Linda’s flowers rotating sign was the old Besaw Carpet sign and the old Sheppard’s drug sign on the side on the building (Admiral side by bus stop) said drugs and Bob and Dorothy Besaw dropped the D so it became rugs…FYI. And Zeeks new space looks fantastic and is a big upgrade to the corner.

Sorry, comment time is over.
