West Seattle’s Girl Scout Cookies have arrived – all 60,000 boxes

Those West Seattle Girl Scouts (and some adult volunteers too) spent their Saturday morning working inside a big loading-dock building at Alaska Marine Lines on West Marginal Way, getting ready for their organization’s tastiest event of the year: Girl Scout Cookie sales! This morning, nearly 3,000 cases of cookies arrived, totaling about 60,000 boxes, approximately one for every person in West Seattle; they had to be sorted for troops to pick up, in stacks like this:

The cookies delivered and sold here are made by Little Brownie Bakers in Kentucky, one of only two GS Cookie bakeries in the nation. 25 West Seattle troops will be selling cookies, with the official kickoff date February 27th (next Friday), and sales continuing through March 15. What’s new this year, you ask? Dulce De Leche (think caramel; read about all 8 available cookie varieties here). Cookie prices? $4/box. If you don’t encounter a Girl Scout selling cookies outside your nearest store, or some other way, send a note here and they’ll have someone contact you. And you won’t be surprised to hear you can become a “fan” of Girl Scout Cookies on Facebook. P.S. Tomorrow is Girl Scouts'[ “World Thinking Day,” and while covering the cookie arrival this morning, we got word of a big project the West Seattle girls are working on – stay tuned for more on that.

Does anyone know if we can buy cookies before the 27th? We are driving to Whistler on the 25th and would love some for the drive!

If someone doesn’t post a reply here (Saturday afternoon can be a bit slow, especially when it’s sunny) I would suggest sending a note via the link I included in the article:

@michelle — using thin mints as the basis for measurement, there are approximately 1,350 calories per box, or, gulp, 81,000,000 calories in those 60,000 boxes. :-O

They were throwing boxes out last night at the Thunderbirds game in Kent, and my group caught one…ummmmm thin mints.
Yet another reason to postpone the long needed diet. Oh well.

I want some!! Remember, everything is fine in moderation. :) I’ve recently lost 20 lbs and I have no off-limit foods. I definitely need to buy a box…or two. I LOVE SAMOAS!

“Thin” Mints are diet food dontcha’ know ;)

Well, they’ve got sugar-free choco-chip cookies, which might have fewer calories. But I’m not going to resist the siren call of the new Dulce de Leche (which sound delish!) or the old fave, the exotically named Samoas. If it’s any comfort, they’re all trans-fat free.

Lemon Chalet Cremes are my new favorite and it looks like only there’s only a small percentage of those available! I better start hanging around the entrance to Safeway ASAP.

Woohoo! Can’t wait to support the local Girl Scouts – since I was a leader, mom and lifetime scout who has sold thousands of boxes over the years I must do my part – and also send some to my scout who now lives in Bean Town! Good luck with the sale girls!

Don’t forget purchasing these cookies help these troops to continue activities with their troop. Funds raised helps troops to do provide materials needed during meetings, camp funds, or the means to do community service. If you are afraid of the calories, consider purchasing a box to be sent to the troop serving our country the Girl Scouts will collect and ship.

Sorry, comment time is over.
