Happening now: West Seattle Art Walk goes to the dogs!

We’ve already got a photographer checking out some of the West Seattle Art Walk venues – and just got this note we wanted to share, from Amy Lee Derenthal at The Kenney:

We have a lobby full of dogs, artists and wonderful food along with wine tasting by South Seattle Community College… and did I mention the champagne? The artists are pet photographers and a pet portrait artist. Come on down! It’s fun!

Photos to come. P.S. We’re told you’re welcome to bring YOUR dog to The Kenney. ADDED 7:24 PM: Back with a few photos – first, Leon the Australian cattle dog, who was there with Jen Flynn from Four Legs Photography:

Second, part of the lavish layout of treats at The Kenney (not shown – chocolate-dipped strawberries, sparkling cider, and champagne):

We also checked out Art Walk stops on the other side of West Seattle – those photos shortly – event continues till 9; here’s the map. ADDED 7:51 PM: Without really plotting our stops this way, we ended up with something of a creature theme – this squid creation was on display at the Senior Center of West Seattle:

At Click! Design That Fits (WSB sponsor) in the Admiral District, this sculpin by Megan Bailey:

If you drop by Click! with a donation for the West Seattle Food Bank, you can get 10 percent off any one item in the store. Last but by no means least (more than 40 venues and we just got to a few), from Twilight in The Junction, custom metalwork by Lisa Geertsen and Andy Blakney, seen here mugging with one of their creations:

And at Brunette Mix (WSB sponsor), oil paintings by Akiko Masker, including this:

Art Walk was a blast! I was really impressed by the quality of work. Wine and cupcakes are always nice, too.

that image of the suminagashi/gyotaku Squid Print is by west seattle senior center art instructor IreneK. not “Donald Kem”. i dont know why your reporter didnt want to WRITE some notes..? the student who was doing the squid prints at artwalk was John Kam! next time, please ask to take photos before you start shooting the ArT at a show. thanks.

Thank you very much for the correction – we will take out the erroneous credit. I can’t find the Senior Center’s listing on the official Art Walk blog so will try to verify with organizer Lora before re-adding a credit here. If we were not welcome to take photos, I wish the person on hand would have said so, as there are more than 40 venues each ArtWalk and we can only make it to a few, so we certainly would have moved on if we had happened onto someone who told us they did not want their art to be photographed – sorry again! – TR

I wanted to make a correction too, the art featured in the photo for the show at Twilight Artist Collective is forged and fabricated solely by me. Lisa Geertsen. As is all of the art featured in the show in their gallery that is up untill March 7. I love my husband Andy Blakney and he makes some wonderful metalwork too, but this is my art. Thank you. -Lisa

The person on hand at the California room (senior center) was not respectively lisened to,which is artist IreneK and wonderful teacher of mine suminagashi/gyotaku. For I was a witness. john Kam is a student. And the male reporter clearly ignored both of the women teachers and organizers. What a Shame. Just because they are not on the artwalk map does not mean you can be so disgraceful to these people. You need to give the artist due credit for her work and make the corrections. a true reporter would do so.

this lovely piece of suminagashi/gyotku is not on display at the senior center of west seattle but at the ARTWALK that night only…it is an independent group of local artists that collaborate creatively and respectively show at the california room. Do you say things like this about cycle u? They also have cycling classes in the california room. these are cutting edge artists. Give Irenek her due respect and credit for her outstanding work of art.

Sorry, comment time is over.
