Cool crimefighting gizmos are just part of the draw at the annual Picnic at the Precinct, 1-4 pm tomorrow at the Southwest Precinct (Delridge/Webster; here’s a map). Tomorrow alone is jampacked – before you picnic with the police, you can help celebrate the High Point Neighborhood Center groundbreaking, at which we’re told you will be invited to share your hopes/dreams for the project’s success:

Event starts at 11 am – Massive Monkees hip-hop dance performance at 1:15! And then when the sun sets and tomorrow starts to cool a bit, you can stay out of your probably-not-air-conditioned house and enjoy a comedy classic:

“Ghostbusters” is tomorrow night’s feature at West Seattle Movies on the Wall. And tonight in The Junction, you can enjoy ArtsWest air conditioning with “Pippin”:

SATURDAY MORNING-AFTERNOON: The EVP, Extreme Volleyball Professionals, visit Alki Beach as part of the multi-city EVP Pro Tour. The tour brings teams from California, Oregon, Canada and Washington State to compete for $5,000 in prize money. The event will also feature a small amateur division competing for prizes.
The tournament starts at 7 a.m. with the women’s championship game scheduled for 3 p.m. and the men’s championship game scheduled for 4:30 p.m. The general public is invited to the beach on Alki Avenue to be part of the television audience starting at 3 p.m. Open seating will be available in the bleachers or the general public is invited to bring a beach chair and set it up around center court (center court will be the one with the 20 foot EVP sign). The event is free for the general public.

SATURDAY MORNING-AFTERNOON: The Tour de West Seattle, a scenic 30-mile bicycle ride to commemorate the West Seattle High School Class of 78’s 30th Reunion (but not affiliated with official planning efforts). Riders meet up in the WSHS parking lot at 8:40 a.m. to depart at 9 a.m. sharp. The route will pass by James Madison Middle School as well as most of the traditional area “feeder” elementary schools, then continue south along Alki/Beach Drive and points south to Arbor Heights before looping north along West Marginal and Harbor Ave. Focus on ’78 classmates and WSHS grads but all welcome. Cue (direction) sheets provided, route can be viewed at http://www.bikely.com/maps/bike-path/Tour-de-West-Seattle173846. Expected pace between 10 and 15 mph and several hills along way. Thanks to owners, Dave Montoure and Dean Overton, West 5 will be donating all proceeds of any “well vodka” drink – back to our team from open to close on Sunday – so come by and see the lovely bartender Quinn, for a screwdriver or a cosmo – and support Breast Cancer Research! In addition, next door at Coffee to a Tea from 7-9 pm, manager Jilyan Perry, will be opening the doors for an afterhours “Silent Auction” to benefit our team as well as selling all pink desserts, which all proceeds will be donated back to our team. After the auction, stop back by West 5 for another cocktail with Don, where DJ Deanzig will be spinning records til close.
